Opening the fridge, I pulled out a bottle of lemonade before peeking over at her. “Do you have any flavor preferences?”

“What?” She looked up at me from where she’d been tapping her short nails on the countertop.

I held up two bottles. “I want to make sure you like whatever I’m giving you.”

“Oh.” She blushed and then pointed at one. “Raspberry, please.”

We fell into silence as I mixed her up a drink before handing it to her. “Too strong?”

She took a sip before looking back at me. “No. It’s good. Thank you.” She curled up her nose. “I don’t think I could drink another beer.”

I laughed, pulling one out for myself. “It’s not so bad once you get used to the taste.”

Her eyes widened, comically. “That’s athing?”I thought she was being serious until she burst out laughing. “My mom says that all the time about wine. I still only like sweet whites, though.”

“Mmm.” I wasn’t huge on wine myself, but I definitely could see where she was coming from. “How old are you? Sounds like I have an experienced drinker on my hands.”

She giggled. “Not really. I just turned twenty-one last month.”

Which meant I wasn’t supplying liquor to a minor. That was good. Shit. Probably should have checked on that first.

“Me too. Newly twenty-one, I mean.” I’d just celebrated my birthday before school started. “This summer.”

“So… you’re a junior too, then?” She traced the rim of her cup.

“Yeah,” I agreed, watching her delicate hands, unable to stop myself from tracing the motion. “Can’t believe we’re already halfway through college.”

The Princess—since we hadn’t exchanged names, that’s what I was calling her in my mind—propped her hip against the counter, leaning as she watched me. “What’s your major?”

“Political Science, but I’m pre-law,” I said, working my jaw. Thinking about my father’s law firm and the spot that was waiting for me there. “What about you?” I asked, fixing my eyes on her face. On those gorgeous baby blues.

“Well…” She glanced away, nervously. “Don’t laugh.”

Laugh? Why the fuck would I laugh? Who’d belittled her dream, so that she felt like she had to give a warning about it? I raised an eyebrow, encouraging her to continue.

“I’m in the theater department. Majoring in Costume Design, specifically.” Looking down, the blonde ran her hands over her dress again. “People like to tell me it’s not an actual career, but…”

Tilting her chin up with my fingers, I forced her gaze to meet mine. “Who told you that?” My eyes focused on her lips as they parted in surprise. “I think that’s cool as hell, Princess.”

“Yeah?” Her face lit up. “I… made the dress I’m wearing, actually. And my sister’s costume, too, but she’s somewhere with an old friend?—”

This time, it was my turn to lean back against the counter, and I made a little twirling motion in the air with my finger. She looked confused.

“Come on,” I encouraged. “Show it off. Twirl for me.” Prying the cup from her hands, I couldn’t help but notice the small smile that curled on her lips.

Stepping back, she looked around before turning, and I couldn’t decide what to focus on. The way her feet moved in those sexy silver heels, how the fabric rippled, catching the light and sparkling with every rotation, or the blush erupting over her cheeks.

“It’s perfect.”You’reperfect, I thought, but didn’t say it out loud. It was too much, especially considering I’d met her minutes ago.

Stepping in closer, her body was practically flush with mine as she took her cup back from my hands, her lips closing around the rim as she took a large sip.

“What’s your name, Princess?” I asked, winding my finger through one of the blonde curls that framed her face.

She shook her head. “No names, Charming.” Her eyes flashed with something, an emotion I couldn’t quite read. “Let’s just… enjoy tonight.”

I grinned. That was something I was capable of. That’s all I wanted.

“Do you want to go outside?”
