Operation on the 29th. 6 PM. Be there.

“Exactly what it says. I’ll text you the address.”

“Damn it, Massimo. You know I don’t like being on ops with you.”

“Be there,” he repeats and hangs up. Less than a minute later, I get another text on my burner. The address: a dock in Providence. Damn it. I hit the steering wheel in frustration.

“What are you doing?” I glance up sharply at Charlie’s voice. She’s wearing my shirt, which looks huge on her, and her hair is pulled into a messy bun. When did she come out here?

“Oh, I didn’t know you had a truck too,” she continues, coming closer to peek inside. I quickly toss the burner phone under the driver’s seat and get out of the truck. Damn it, how much, if any, of my conversation with Massimo did she overhear?

“What are you doing out here?” I ask her, turning her around to lead her back into the house. “I thought you’d linger in bed for a while.”

“You weren’t there.” She smiles brightly at me, and my heart tugs.

“Sorry about that. I had some quick business to attend to. Now come on, let’s take a shower together.” I wiggle my brows at her suggestively. She giggles and starts walking faster, which I take as agreement.

We both saunter to the master ensuite. She takes off my shirt and tosses it at me. I watch entranced as her hips sway; her ass jiggles as she makes her way to the shower. Lord, have mercy. I quickly push my pants down and follow her.

Safe to say, we made sure to get a little dirtier before washing up. Then I took my sweet time lathering every square inch of herbody with soap and watching it rinse away, along with the last chance I had of not completely falling for this woman.

We’re both back in the bedroom getting dressed when I realize the 29th is actually this Saturday. Just two days away. Fucking hell.

“Hey, you. What are you thinking about that’s making you all gloomy?” Charlie asks, walking up to me and looking straight into my eyes. Hell, she looks into my very soul in a way that only she can. She walks her fingers up my chest slowly. “I should think you’d be relaxed after thatsteamyshower.” I can’t get anything past this woman, which is not ideal since I still havea lotto hide. Not for long, I promise myself.

The corners of my lips pull up when I realize she’s trying to cheer me up. “Don’t you know by now? I’m insatiable when it comes to you,” I murmur, bending my head to nip at her ear.

She giggles, squirming in my arms. “No! No more please. I need a break.”

I pinch her chin as I release her. “Fine. I’ll let you be…for now. But be ready at six.”

Her pupils dilate, her lips parting. “Six?”

“For adate.” I stress the word “date”. “I realize that we’ve been doing everything backwards. Making babies. Moving in together.” Getting married, I add silently, “And all this while we haven’t even been on a single date.”

She gives me a stunning grin. “That’s true. Where are you going to take me, Mr. Beaufort? You need to really impress me if you want at this again,” She teases, waving her hands down her body.

I wrap my arms around her waist and drag her back to my chest. “You don’t have to worry about that. I do believe I have this on lockdown already.” I bend my head toward her, smiling when she closes her eyes, tipping her head in permission. I press a kiss to her temple and release her.

She frowns when she blinks her eyes open. “Jerk.”

“Ah ha, but I’m your jerk.” I wave my index finger at her, intrigued when she squints and sticks out her tongue.

“Whatever. We still have several hours until six, how are we going to pass the time?” she mumbles.

“I have some ideas,” I offer and wiggle my brows at her.

She punches me on the chest lightly, “Nuh-uh. We’re unpacking my stuff.”

“If you had already decided, why did you even bother asking?” I grouse playfully, walking into my closet to pull on some pants and a shirt. When I get back to the bedroom, I see Charlie has also changed into a pair of leggings and a thick pink sweater.

“Ready to get to work?” she asks, placing her hands on her hips.

I smile and beckon her with my index and middle finger. She narrows her eyes suspiciously, but she comes anyway. I turn her around and walk into the closet with her.

I point at the rows of empty shelves and she gasps softly, shrugging my hand off her shoulder as she walks in deeper. “You cleared up some wardrobe space for me?” She turns back to face me with huge eyes, a soft emotion crossing her face.

“I hadn’t been using all the space, so I only had to clear a shelf or two. It’s no big deal.” I shrug, but she seems determined to make a big deal out of it because she walks to me and places her hands on my chest, tilting her head back to meet my gaze.
