“What? Is there a reason to wait? We’ve wasted so much time away from each other already. I want you to be my wife by now, Charlie.”
“Mom’s going to kill us. But you know what? Let’s do it!”
He wraps his hands beneath my ass and pulls me into his arms with a loud whoop. I squeal, quickly wrapping my arms around his neck. He jogs into the house, and I marvel at how he isn’t out of breath as he climbs the stairs. I know for a fact that I’ve gained a few pounds.
He carries me into our bedroom and gently places me on the bed with a grin.
“What doyou think the note on the flowers Massimo sent meant?” I ask him a few hours later as I once again raise my hand to admire my ring. I just love it so much. I can’t wait to show it off. A star ring.
“I know if he had meant to kill me, I would already be dead. So, I think it’s his way of letting me free. And he wanted me toknowhe was letting me go.”
“What do you suppose he might want later?” He did say Ezra would owe him a favor. A favor he would call in anytime he needs it.
“Who knows?” Ezra shrugs. “He’s an unpredictable son of a bitch.”
“As long as it’s not our first born child, then I don’t really care.” I tell him, dropping my hand to my stomach.
“Never. He can’t have them.” He says rolling to his side so we’re staring into each other’s eyes. He pushes a few strands of hair behind my ear. “Nothing’s going to touch our family.”
I smile at him and snuggle closer into his chest, filled with immense satisfaction.
