Page 6 of Resisting Nature

“No, it isn’t,” he bites out.

“Come on, admit it, it was hilarious.” And there it is, a crack in his stern expression that tells me I’m correct. I bask in the moment, for it is rare and a true gem to collect.

“Don’t get smug about it,” he warns.

“I wasn’t going to.” Lifting my hands in defense, I fall against the booth. “I’m just glad to see you laughing. For a while, I thought you were getting as bad as Derek.”

“Derek needs to pull that stick out of his backside.” Archer’s comment floors us both as we look down at him while he colors on his mat. He must sense us looking because he pauses to glance up. “What? That’s what Grandpa says.”

This causes me to laugh even harder because that sounds like something my dad would say. Even though we all know Derek’s story, it’s difficult not to give him shit about his sour mood. He could have changed all of it, but that’s a whole other story.

One he can tell.

“This has been entertaining, but I’m going to leave now.” Sliding out of the booth, I pull out a couple of bills from my wallet to help cover my meal and head out.

“Where are you going?” Mason shouts at my back.

“I have a date with a bombshell of a blonde.” Unlike Mason, I don’t hide my relationships, but then again, I don’t have a child I’m solely responsible for. Things may be different if that were the case.

With a skip in my step, I make my way to my bike and take off for Fetterman once more. One thing I have over most of my friends is I know how to date, and I’m a master when it comes to wooing a woman.

I plan on working my magic with my mate. Not that I’ll need to do too much. According to everything my dad and all the older pack members, she won’t be able to resist me, and the natural pull between us will make becoming a couple a breeze.

My only issue is her lack of knowledge about who I truly am. It shouldn’t be a big deal, but something swelling in my chest makes me think otherwise.

Don’t worry about it.

How can you say that?

Tuning him out, I don’t want the thought of her possible rejection after she learns the truth to taint our first date. I pack up a small lunch and plan to take her to one of the most amazing spots in the county.

The car that dropped off Rylie in front of Half Moon is parked in front of the house I delivered Alexa to last night. Her response when I told her we were going out today was short and sweet. As I get off my bike and my hands feel clammy, I’m nervous she may change her mind.

Climbing the three steps of the porch, I’m not given a chance to knock on the door because she’s flying out of it, her blond hair whipping around her with the wind she’s created. It carries the sweet scent of apples over to me, especially when the screen door slams shut behind her.

“Hey,” I breathe.

“Hi, Miles.” Her lyrical tone has me vibrating with excitement to take hold of her and never, everlet go. I feel like that big red monster fromLooney Toons.

“Are you ready to go?”

She was a knockout in the silver dress last night, but this sweet side to her in cutoffs, a floaty tank top, and simple sneakers makes me think I’m seeing the real Alexa.

“Yes. Where are we off to?” She doesn’t flinch away from me when I capture her hand and lead her to my bike, waiting onthe street. We repeat the same actions from hours ago, but she willingly slides closer to me this time without my prompting.

“Somewhere special.”

The press of her chest against my hard back, her breathing hitting my neck in even intervals, and the clasping of her hands around my middle causes my dick to strain under my zipper once more. Biting down on my cheek, I start the bike, and we take off.

There’s an ease flowing from me into her as I take the turns with glided comfort. I debated about what I wanted to bring on our date. If I had taken my Jeep, we would have been able to talk and get to know one another a little better, which would have made her accept our bond easier, but I went with the bike because I just wanted us to feel one another for a while. Some part of me hopes that if she gets a sense of me, she’ll feel more open to talking to me about who she is.

By the time we reach our destination, the face of the mountain that looks down to the foothills and the massive expanse of prairie, the sweet scent of her arousal has flooded my nostrils.

Should have just taken her back to the cabin.

Humans don’t work that way.

Shame.
