I rubbed my arms and stole a peek at him. Perfect hair swept to the side, clean-shaven jaw, stark, green-focused eyes, and full lips. Simply perfect. Drool-worthy. Every woman’s dream, except for the violent outbursts.Curses.He was just too handsome for his own good.

“It’s rude to stare.”

The deep timbre of his voice broke the silence.

I looked away with a small smile. “It’s suspicious to not tell passengers the destination of their journey.”

A sliver of amusement crossed his lips. He tapped on the steering wheel with his thumb. My nose tickled. His aftershave. Apple cider and pinewood mixed with a hint of cigars. “You think this is a kidnap?”

I glanced out the window, staring at the blurring buildings, green trees, and clear bright skies. “Your words, not mine. And why do you make it sound absurd? You’ve done it before; you could do it again.”

Something deep, rich, and low like a chuckle rumbled in his throat. “A kidnap wouldn’t make sense now, would it? We just left the house.”

“We both know you have many, many houses.”

That was another addition to the fun we’d had. Touring his many penthouses, while pretending we wanted to do anything other than fuck our brains out.

“True.” He shrugged, like the knowledge of how stinking rich he was didn’t concern him. “But a location is useless without motive. What will be my motive to kidnap you?”

“I don’t know, you tell me.”

“I have no motive,malyksha.”

“Then tell me where we are going.”

“No. We’ll be there soon.”

I huffed, folding my arms over my chest. “Then I maintain my stance: this journey should be reported as a suspicious activity.”

He was quiet for a while before he said, “Why don’t you guess again?”

I twirled my head to the side and glared at him. “Maybe this is a pre-murder hostage situation?”If he’d gotten tired and wanted me out of the picture. My throat closed at just the thought.

“A pre-murder hostage situation.” The words rolled off his tongue effortlessly as he repeated them. Mockery shone in his eyes. “You just made that up.”

“If it happens, then it will be a real thing, won’t it?”

He exhaled and shook his head. “I am not going to kill you, kitten.”

My heart warmed. He’d called me by my nickname. That should have reassured me. But...

I unfastened the seatbelt and turned my entire body to face him. Determined to know my fate. “Then, again, tell me where we are going.”

He inclined on his seat and motioned his head towards the windscreen. “We’re here, stubborn little Vanessa.”

I followed his eyes and held my breath.

In the heat of overthinking, I hadn’t realized when the car stopped moving.

I looked around. It was a green park, but in the far, far distance, I saw a waterfall surrounded by thick canopies of healthy green trees and brown rocks. It looked like a display on an LED screen, but still, I had never seen such beautiful scenery. Not in the Bronx anyway.

Excited, I spun to face him.

“Where is this?”

His eyes twinkled and there was a smile on his lips. The most beautiful, heart-squeezing smile I had ever seen. My stomach flipped, literally.

Shifting his body, he adjusted in his seat and brought his head closer. “A place.”
