“I thought you started the party.” We shook hands. “Thank you for your help, Rafail.”

He chuckled and slapped my shoulder lightly before heading inside the building to assess the damage.

“Anything for a friend.”

Rafail had planted a few spies with Joe’s gang.Always ten steps ahead. And in the brief time he found out about Alex’s kidnapping, he was able to get some more. That was how we were able to conquer Joe Brown.

Headlights flashed from a distance and closed in as the seconds ticked by. I grabbed my gun and aimed.

The car stopped, the lights went off, and the doors opened.

She jumped out, still dressed in her sexy dress and sandals, and ran to me with tears streaming down her cheeks.

“Alexei! Xander!” She flung herself into my arms and kissed both our cheeks. “I thought I’d lost you both.”

I held her tightly and looked up to Pavel who seemed rather pained. “She insisted that I bring her here, boss. Shevehementlyrefused to go home.”

I smiled and kissed her temple. “Seems like someone’s going to get punished for flaunting my instructions.”

She snorted. “You almost died in there and that’s all you can think about?”

“Yes, kitten,” I whispered in her ear. “Have you already forgotten the rule: you only do what I tell you to do.”

“I don’t care.” She looked up at me with a bright gleam in her eye as she whispered, “As for me, my home is right here.”

EPILOGUE - Vanessa

6 months later

Children’s screams and chatter echoed in the air and were muffled as Xander excitedly closed the door. We climbed into the back seat and Pavel started the car.

“Ms. Samantha. That’s her name.”

I gaped, intrigued at the revelation. “Your teacher was the first friend you made?”

He nodded, emptied his backpack, fished out his drawing books, and pointed to the corrections she had made. He gushed. He talked about how nice she was, and how caring and attentive she was.

It was his first day of preschool and he was super excited. From getting ready to dropping him off in the morning, to picking him up in the afternoon. I was happy to see him having fun at school.

The car howled and crunched on the gravel as we stopped in front of the main entrance. He hurriedly got out in front of me, spread his arms, and zoomed through the air like an airplane.

I laughed.

I adjusted the sleeve of my elegant black jumpsuit and followed Xander up the stairs and into the house.

Sarah was waiting in the foyer with a black handbag in her hand. She tapped her flat T-strap shoes on the shiny floor, greeted with a warm smile, and held Alexander's hand.

“Welcome back, ma'am.”

“Hi, Sarah,” I eyed her outfit. She was dressed in a simple blue dress and had light blush dusted across her cheeks. “Are you going out?”

She gave a curt nod. “Yes, ma'am. I'll be leaving with young Alex.”

“Oh.” I wondered why. “But we just got back.”

“I know, ma'am, but the boss left clear instructions to take young Alex out immediately after he got back from school. He has some special afternoon planned for him at one of the penthouses.”

“Yay! Can I go, Mommy?” Xander jumped up and down on the spot. “Can I go?”
