I just hoped Angela wasn’t as pushy as her sister had been. I wasn’t sure what to make of that, and I really wanted this to work out for everyone.

Especially Lucy.

She was, after all, the one I was doing this for.

Chapter Five

Cassie

Iglanced down at the ringing phone on my way through the door.

I had just gotten home, and I was beat. It had been a long day at the restaurant, and once again, I was counting the days to when I would be able to only work the nanny business and not have to deal with everything that went with waitressing.

Seeing Teresa’s name on the phone, I grumbled under my breath.

It wasn’t that I didn’t want to talk to my sister. It was the fact that her calling me that late meant that she had some sort of something to share with me, and I wasn’t sure I wanted to hear it. With how life had been giving me nothing but lemonslately, I wasn’t ready for more. It was tough enough trying to stay positive.

I all but dropped my things on the couch before putting the phone to my ear.

“Hello?”

“Hey girl,” Teresa said. “Is now a good time?”

“For what?” I asked.

“We have a new client,” Teresa said. I could hear the smile in her voice. “And I think you’re going to be happy about this one.”

“Oh?” I asked. “Is there something remarkable about them?”

“They came in on the recommendation of someone we worked with in the past. I did a little bit of research, and do you remember the Young family?”

I thought for a moment. The name was really familiar, but my silence prompted Teresa to keep talking.

“The ones who lived in those huge plantation houses on the other side of Savannah.”

“Oh yeah, I remember now,” I said. “They recommended us?”

“They did,” Teresa said. “You were the one who worked for them, and I guess you must have made a real impression from the way this guy was going on and on about how he just wanted what was best for his kid and all that.”

“Did you set up a time for an interview?” I asked.

“Yes,” Teresa confirmed. “But I didn’t tell our movie star she’s going to be needed for work.”

“Shit,” I said. “Do you mind?”

“Actually, I do,” Teresa told me. “You know Angela. She’s going to be pissed if I’m the one to tell her I gave her this client because she just got cut down to two days a week. She listens to you way better than me.”

“You both listen to me better than you do each other,” I said with a sigh. “I can give her a call, but when did you set the appointment?”

“Tomorrow,” Teresa said. “I just got off the phone with the guy a few minutes before I called you. I figured with the way you’ve been talking about wanting to have more business, the sooner the better, right?”

“Good girl,” I told her. “That’s how I would do things. Okay, give me the deets, and after I get done with a couple things, I’ll call Angela and let her know.”

“I got you,” Teresa said. “I’m texting you through what he gave me now.”

I felt my phone vibrate in my hand as she did, and I put her on speaker to check things over. She had been very thorough with the information, so there was little I had to ask. I sat down with my laptop as I spoke to her, pulling up the address of the place and looking at the house.

She had also included his full name, his phone number, and the basic information about the child he was asking us to watch. I was rather impressed with how far my sister had come with her receptionist skills. She hadn’t always been so thorough.
