My heart dropped to my stomach at the information bomb Lydia just unloaded on me. How can this be happening? I’m nobody special; up until a few months ago, I never even knew this whole world existed. Now the fucking devil himself was after me because he thought he had some sort of claim over me from a curse that happened a thousand years ago.

“You have it wrong,” I whispered so low I thought she wouldn’t have heard me.

“No, I swear, Diana, the curse was conducted in a way that if there were any females born in the Nephus line, they would be surrendered to Lucifer. No females were born for a thousand years, so it was forgotten until Mammon tracked down your parents, reminding them of the curse and demanding they turn you over to him to deliver to the devil. When your parents refused, he killed them for it. I don’t know how they found out about you; we worked so hard to keep your birth a secret.” Tears started streaming down her face as she apologized, and Eros handed her a tissue.

“So now what?” I asked, looking around at everyone in the room. “How do I run from the devil?”

My voice cracked on the last word.

“You don't run,” Apollo said, and my gaze snapped to him.

Before he could say anything else, Atlas chimed in, “We're going to kill him.”

My mouth dropped open at how casually he said that. “We can’t kill the devil. He’s the fucking devil. Isn’t he like unkillable or something?”

“Nothing is unkillable, bunny, there’s always a way, and we won't stop until we find it,” Atlas said, then kissed the top of my head like we were discussing dinner choices and not killing the fucking devil here.

“Okay, let's all get some sleep, and we will form a plan tomorrow.” Apollo said, “Lydia, Eros will show you to your room for the night until we come up with a more permanent solution.”

At Apollo's dismissal, we all started to file out of his room. Atlas grabbed my hand to lead me out before Apollo grabbed my other hand to stop us.

“I need a word with Diana,” Apollo said in a no-questions tone.

Atlas looked like a kid who just got his favorite toy taken away, but he took one look at his stern face and decided he would not win the fight.

Atlas grabbed me back out of Apollo's arms and kissed me hard. All the air left my lungs, and my heart fluttered.

“I’ll see you later, bunny,” he said before kissing me on the nose and exiting the room and leaving me alone with the alpha.

Before I could turn around, I was swept off my feet and deposited back on the bed.

“I can’t seem to sleep when you're not in my arms, firecracker.” He said as he started taking off my boots.

My core heated at his honesty. I helped him strip off my shirt and leggings so all that I was left in was my bra and panties.

He stripped down to his boxers and crawled into bed, pulling me against his side.

I fit perfectly against him, like I was made for him.

Sleep came easy as I listened to the steady rhythm of Apollo's heartbeat.

Chapter 33

Diana

It’s been weeks of classes and training since Lydia told us that my soul belonged to the devil. We were working on a plan to kill him, but I wasn’t hopeful.

Was it even possible to kill the devil?

Everyone was on edge, being stuck inside the wards. We already know Lucifer will do whatever he can to lure me out, so Apollo ordered our team and the pack to stay within the wards. I could see how strung up the guys were getting; even though they assured me they were fine, I could tell that was a lie.

They were meant to be out there fighting, not stuck in here because of me.

My thoughts were spinning as I made my way down to meet Phoenix in the training field. We spent the last couple of weeks practicing with my daggers, and today, we were shooting the bow. I was so excited, even though I had never shot one before I'd seen it done. I mean, how hard could it be?

Phoenix was already in the field setting up targets when I arrived. The field wasn’t filled with flowers anymore, and the grass wasn’t as green, reminding me that we were in winter. Even though it didn’t get too cold here, I still hated winter. I loved all the flowers in bloom and the beauty it brings. Everything just looked sad, lacking color, and there was a chill in the air.

Phoenix smiled when he saw me approaching. Those beautiful dimples I love greeted me. I ran the last few feet and flung myself into his arms.
