“I went after Greg to get hard evidence that he stabbed you,” she said flatly.

Not one person other than Bones had done for him what she had. “Damn, you’re sexy.” Grabbing Riley, Preacher picked her up so her long legs had to wrap around his waist. His mouth descended on hers as he walked them toward the door. He winced but ignored the small discomfort. Three months and sometimes pain still rocked him.

Riley was completely caught off guard when Preacher picked her up. She almost struggled to get free, except his mouth was too damn tempting. His long fingers digging into her hips had her tightening her thighs. Damn, she’d missed him.

“There’s a room upstairs, brother,” someone yelled, laughing. Preacher knew damn well the laughter was covering the real emotion in the room. He knew once he and Riley were gone, every man in the room would be putting out feelers looking for Jack.

Ignoring them, he let her lower her legs so her feet touched the ground. With Riley’s hand in his, Preacher used his hip to push the door open. When it closed behind them, he pressed her back against the door so he could look at her.

She didn’t want to bring up his pain level, but . . . “I heard you wince. Are you still having pain?”

“Just when I do stupid things like pick women up.” He smiled.

“So, you’ve been picking up women?” She laughed, watching him as his smile widened.

“Nah, sweetheart, I’ve been saving up for you.”

“What are you saying, I’m heavy?”

Preacher moved in fast, capturing her mouth with his again. Since she walked out of his house a month ago, he wanted to taste her lips again. He’d screwed up and needed to apologize. “I’m sorry.” He waited, watching, and then Riley smiled.

“Don’t be mistaken, I’m still pissed.”

“As you should be. But don’t think you’re going after Greg Mitchell.”

“We will have to agree to disagree.” Preacher shook his head as one of the brothers started knocking on the door, yelling at them.

“Can we come in? Are you guys naked? I wanna watch.”

“Let’s go home.” Preacher rolled his eyes at the comments as they started up again.

“We’ll stop by in ten minutes, and we’ll bring pizza.”

“I don’t care if they light the house on fire, we aren’t leaving or letting them in until we finish what we’ve started.”

“If I have it my way, sugar, we’re gonna be the ones setting it on fire,” Riley said, giving him a wink. “Now, take me home before someone gets hurt.” She smiled, sticking her tongue between her teeth.

Preacher stepped back. Taking her hand, he headed for his bike with her in tow. Once on his ride, he waited for her to climb on before firing it up. Hitting the start button, he had just shifted into gear when Riley wrapped her legs around his waist and slipped her arms under his, resting her hands on his chest. He felt her face against his back and breathed easy for the first time in years.

Riley glanced over as they passed her car. Tapping Preacher on his chest, she pointed to the Nova and heard him say they’d pick it up later. Hopefully, later meant tomorrow. Maybe even the next day.

ChapterThirty

Riley wasn’t sure what she expected, but Preacher hadn’t approached her since arriving at the house. He’d gotten a call the moment he put the key in the lock. Whoever was on the phone had distracted him enough for him to step out onto the back patio, and he still remained there, staring at the water.

A few times, she heard him shouting, followed by a string of swear words that had her blushing. Riley wasn’t sure what was going on, but her money was on Jack causing more trouble. According to Temple, she had gone back to Reno, but something told Riley that she hadn’t seen the last of Jacqueline Landry.

Preacher walked in and tossed his phone on the counter, but he didn’t say a word as he stalked across the room. Riley watched as he came closer. If he kissed her again, she would give him whatever he wanted.

The sofa dipped as he leaned in, bracketing her body with lean, muscular arms. Biting her tongue, she tried leaning away as he nudged her head to the side and his teeth scraped along her neck. “Fuck it,” Riley whispered as she reached up, shooting her hands into his long hair. Tangling her fingers in its length, she pulled his mouth to hers.

He halted the movement, looked into her eyes like he could see every single thing, and told her to be sure. She needed to be one hundred percent because there would be no asking a second time. Smashing her mouth to his, Riley wanted Preacher more than she had a month ago. And no, there would be no going back.

Grabbing her by the waist, Preacher picked her up and wrapped her legs around his waist. “I’m taking you to bed.” Riley laughed as he headed toward his bedroom. His hands gripped her ass, two hands full of all woman, and he loved the feeling.

He couldn’t wait to caress that spot right where her butt and her thigh met. It was one of the most neglected places on a woman’s body by most men, but not him. Preacher loved all those small spots that seemed unimportant. The tender spot behind the ear. The seam below a woman’s ass cheeks. Right behind the knee, and the little spot right behind the ankle. All those spots would be his to enjoy on Riley.

Stepping through the bedroom door, Preacher asked if she wanted the door closed or left open. Some women liked a lot of privacy while some liked showing off their freak flag. “Closed,” Riley mumbled between kisses. Kicking the door shut, Preacher didn’t miss a step as he headed for the bed.
