I glare out at the rolling waves, hands clenched into fists. How dare he speak to me like that? Like he knows me. Like we’re… together.

The rings on my finger gleam in the sunlight, two simple platinum bands. I yank them off and shove them in my cut-offs’ pocket.

When Cam returns, his gaze immediately drops to my bare fingers. His jaw hardens again, but he says nothing. Just helps me into the speedboat tied to the side of the ship that motors us back to shore under a heavy silence.

The short trip feels interminable. My mind races as I study the man beside me.

We reach a white sand beach and the engine cuts. “We’re here.” His tone is neutral, giving nothing away.

I hesitate, pride warring with practicality. I have nowhere else to go, no one else I know on this island. But to stay with him, to accept his support…

“I don’t need your help,” I say stiffly. “Just point me in the direction of the nearest town. I’ll find my way home from there.”

Cam’s jaw tightens. “I’m not leaving you alone, Aisha, for God’s sake! At least come up to the villa, get cleaned up, and call your family. They’ll confirm I’m telling you the truth.”

My family. The thought makes my chest ache. But he’s right, I need help. As much as I hate to admit it, I’m not in any state to be wandering around on my own.

I nod reluctantly. “Fine. But after I’ve called my family, I’m leaving. I don’t know how I ended up here with you, but I’m going to get to the bottom of it.”

“Fine,” Cam says. He helps me out of the boat. I try to ignore the warmth of his hands on my waist, the familiar flutter in my stomach at his touch that I’ve been fighting for what feels like my whole life…

I’m so fucking screwed.

Chapter 2

My eyes widen at the sight of the amazing villa perched at the top of a lush hillside. “Welcome to our little corner of paradise, Mrs. Bates,” Cam whispers, taking my hand.

His touch sends a jolt through me, and I snatch my hand away. “Don’t fucking call me that.”

We climb up the stone steps to a pair of heavy wooden doors that open into a huge foyer with marble floors and crystal chandeliers.

I glare at Cam as we head up another grand staircase to the second floor. We reach the end of the hall, and Cameron opens a set of double doors. They reveal a sprawling suite with high ceilings, plush white carpeting, and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the ocean.

The massive four-poster bed is draped in immaculate sheets.

I fold my arms, raising an eyebrow at Cam. “You’re kidding me, right?”

He comes behind me, his warm breath tickling my neck. “Come on, baby. It’s our honeymoon.” His tone is teasing. Now that sardonic tone I’m familiar with.

Goosebumps prickle my skin as he wraps his powerful arms around my waist, and I swallow hard against the flutter in my belly.

After all these years, how does he still get under my skin like this?

His lips brush the curve of my shoulder, soft as a whisper, and my breath hitches.

Images flash through my mind—Cam and me as teenagers, hissing at each other in the dim light of a movie theater while our group of friends laugh at the action on screen, ignoring us. But also Cam pinning a guy who’d gotten handsy with me against the wall at a house party, anger burning in his eyes.

The memories intensify the unsettling feeling in my chest, and I close my eyes with a quiet groan. I can’t deny the insane attraction I’ve always felt for Cam, no matter how much I fought it.

“I know you remember,” he murmurs low and sexy, his fingers sliding under the hem of my top to trace the sensitive skin of my stomach. “We can’t keep our hands off each other…”

A throaty moan escapes my lips as his hands slide higher, brushing the underside of my breasts. “Cam, stop—”

His voice is rough with desire. “You’re my wife. This is where we were always headed.”

I swallow hard, torn between lust and disbelief. “You arrogant bastard. Get off me!”
