He stills behind me, hands dropping. The loss of his touch leaves an aching emptiness inside me, and I close my eyes with a shuddering breath.

After a long moment, Cam sighs. “You really don’t remember?”

I turn to face him, anger and confusion warring within me. “Remember what? That we supposedly got married? Stop wasting your breath and my time. I don’t fucking believe you.” He runs a hand over his short hair, expression pained. “You expect me to believe we got married just because I had rings on my finger? I’m not that stupid.” I pull out the rings and slam them on the nearest table.

“We exchanged vows, Aisha. Promised to love, respect and cherish each other.” His jaw clenches, and for a moment I see a flash of the ruthless determination that made him such a formidable opponent for all those years.

I fold my arms, refusing to stand down. “I don’t recall.”

Cam laughs without humor, shaking his head.

I turn away, but he grips my arm and pulls me back against him. His eyes blaze into mine, dark with heat.

“I fucking love you, Aisha Bates. And I swear to God, you will remember us.”

His words hit me like a punch to the gut, knocking the breath from my lungs. I try to pull away, but Cameron holds me, his warm hands branding my skin.

My heart pounds as I stare up at him, torn between disbelief and the traitorous craving I can never shake with this man. I want to argue, but the words are stuck in my throat, my mind going blank as Cam lowers his head to mine.

When his lips brush mine, it’s like a fire sparks inside me. A surge of heat and longing so intense my mind goes blank, wiping away any thought of resistance.

I moan softly as the kiss deepens, my hands sliding up to grip his massive shoulders. Cam groans in response, the sound vibrating through me as he pulls me tighter against his hard body.

He kisses me like he fucking owns me, with a possessive hunger that should frighten me but only leaves me aching for more. I kiss him back just as greedily, drunk on the taste and feel of him, the familiarity of his embrace.

By the time we break apart, I’m breathless, staring up at Cam through a haze of desire. He watches me intently, a muscle twitching in his jaw.

“Do you believe me now?” His voice is a low rasp, gruff with lust.

I swallow hard, shaken by how much he affects me. By how much I want this to be real, despite everything I know about us. Everything I’ve been saying.

“I don’t know what to believe anymore,” I whisper.

Cam cups my face in his large hands, his touch unbearably tender. “Believe this.”

He kisses me again and I melt into him, lost in sensations. All I know is Cam, and the tenderness I can feel pouring from his every touch.

Chapter 3

The villa is stunning, with its high ceilings, marble floors and plush cream-colored furniture. Through the arched entryway I can see a private beach and turquoise waves stretching to the horizon. Palm trees rustle in the sea breeze, waving lazily across a cloudless blue sky.

It’s paradise. A perfect, idyllic setting for a honeymoon.

If only I could enjoy it.

Cam comes up behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist. I tense instinctively before forcing myself to relax into his embrace.

“Beautiful, isn’t it?” His lips brush the curve of my neck, sending a shiver down my spine. “Almost as beautiful as you.”

I scoff. “You’re a smooth talker now?”

“With my wife? Always.” he winks.

Wife. The word still feels alien, as foreign as this extravagant island and the man holding me. I stare up at Cam, searching for any trace of the hostility that once resided between us. All I see there is warmth, desire and something that looks a lot like love…

My heart squeezes painfully in my chest. I want so badly to give in to this fantasy he’s created, to believe we’re really married and vacationing in this tropical paradise. But I can’t. I won’t let myself be seduced by something that can’t possibly be real.
