“Really? Maybe we need to put our headquarters there,” he said with a chuckle.

I shrugged. Not that he could see that. “That wouldn't be a bad idea. You can make apps anywhere right?”

“Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But you really should work on your daddy issues. We will talk on Zoom later this week?”

“Sunday. Be ready.”

I hung up. Just a few more hours till I could get off. I needed to run to the store and get food for Jordan. There was a loud bang as a woman yelped in the copy room beside my office. After a few moments, I heard her mutter, “stupid machine.”

I laughed to myself as I started to fill out the papers and put them where they were needed. My dad's office hadn't changed much in the last few years. The faces changed, but the constant gossip, backstabbing, and technology problems alwayshappened. Maybe it was a good thing to be home. It was time to settle down.

With my arms full of groceries, I knocked on Jordan's door. She opened the door. She looked stunning in a pair of tight jeans and a flowy low-cut top. Her gorgeous face lit up as she smiled and her green eyes sparkled. I stepped in and walked to her small kitchenette. I started pulling ingredients out.

“How much did you bring? Did you bring pans?”

“I told you I don't have much. So I got my pans and we will break them in. How does that sound?” Although there were different things I’d rather break with Jordan.

She smiled. Jordan stood on her tiptoes looking over my shoulder. “Sounds great. Damn, those are some nice pans. You got a bit of money, don't you? Of course, you do. Enough to travel, ya know? How was work?” she asked.

“Boring. They don't believe in me.”

“I’m sure they will change their minds soon.”

I shrugged. “What if they don’t?” I said.

She blinked. “What do you mean?”

As I started to chop vegetables, I explained, “So I told you I traveled right? I left because I was young. I was getting in too much trouble. So I wanted to be out of the spotlight. I traveled. I bummed around a bit. As you said, I have a bit of money from my family. So I stopped drawing from those accounts. I worked around it. Just enough to make it for a few weeks. If I knew I was leaving, I would donate my last few checks to the community.”

“Wow. How charming of you,” she said as she perched on the stool.

“One time I dropped my cover to help a woman get treatment. I pulled some strings, got her in an experimental program that only the elite can access, and gave them money to pay for all the expenses. She lived. I don’t think she would have if I hadn’t done that.”

Jordan eyes widened. “Wow. That’s something. Pulled strings?”

I poured some oil into the pot and started sautéing the vegetables. “Yeah. In the last few years, I started a tech company with a guy I know. We keep it quiet.”

Jordan’s head tilted. “What does your family say about that?”

“Haven't told them.”

Shock crossed her face before it was replaced with a smile. “What? Maybe you have this backward, ya know?”

I nodded. “Yeah, my friend agrees.” Maybe I was screwing this up.

Her laugh echoed through the kitchen. “I know you're older than me and all, but you still have things to figure out. I guess when you are comfortable in life, you can do things a bit backward.”

“Plates?”

Jordan walked past me and her hip brushed against me. I held back a groan as I wanted to pull her close and show her how much I wanted her. She was standing on her tiptoes to reach the plates. Her tight jeans showed off her glorious round butt. “Here they are,” she said as she turned around. I grabbed them and started to serve the food. We sat at the bar and started to eat.

She moaned when she took her first bite, covering her mouth to muffle the sound. She covered her mouth. “This is so good. Where did you learn to cook like this?”

I smiled. I wanted to see those eyes roll back because of the pleasure I gave her, not just from my cooking. “Traveling. Some small local classes in those areas,” I said. “I knew a professionalchef growing up also and I would help out when I was bored as a teen. This was one meal they cooked with me.”

“You cooked for fun as a teen?” She smiled as she gazed at me. She twirled her noodles around her fork.

“Yeah, until I figured out how to get into trouble.”
