Flora turned her head slightly toward the door. “Is that why she’s your assistant suddenly?”

“She’s able to do the job. Why not? This was a bonus.”

“I noticed that he had been targeting her lately. He usually picks a girl in the lower levels of the chain of command to torture.”

“Where are the others?”

Flora shrugged. “Quit or fired. He has the golden touch,” she said.

“Has anyone reported this to Alana?”

“I don’t think she knows. We don’t talk about it. He’s best friends with your dad. She has no choice if he says someone needs to go because Mr.Lyons has been buzzing in his ear over dinner. It’s all lies. I don’t know how it works. No one reports him to Alana, but everyone is afraid no one will believe them. We know.”

“Do you have any of their names? I want to make sure he knows not to do it again.”

Flora quirked up a smile. “You are doing this because you saw him targeting Jordan? Wow! That’s awfully nice of you,” she said. She glanced at her nails really quick. “You’re really going to end his career? It won’t be easy because he’s good with your father. Is blood thicker than water?”

“It’s wrong, Ms. Jones. This has nothing to do with her. I witnessed it. I talked to Alana and there isn’t much to be doneat this time. She already sent an email blast on appropriate work decorum, as you know.”

“Oh, that was about him? Too bad he thinks he’s above the law around here. I can email or DM some girls I know and see if they will talk to you. Maybe you can convince them to report him. Will she actually fire him?” She shook her head. “I don’t think even the golden boy will get him gone.”

How did she know that I didn’t think my dad would believe me right away? I shrugged as I leaned back. Surely, my father will believe me if I bring evidence. “Do you know what my email is?”

“Of course, I’m well versed with the chain of command and all that,” she said as she patted down her skirt.

“Keep me abreast and get me that information. Can you keep this a secret?”

Flora’s eyes narrowed as she smirked with glee. “I can when I want to and honestly, I don’t want to have a target on my back. Now that Jordan is working for you, he will probably look for some new targets. I don’t want to be that person,” she said. She stood up and extended a hand. “It was nice talking to you in person.”

I took her hand and shook it. “Thanks for helping me get rid of the trash,” I said. She smiled at that and walked out of the room. As I opened up my blinds, I could feel Jordan's gaze following my every move through the windows. Leaning against the wall, I smiled at her, feeling the coolness against my back. Her face turned a shade of crimson when she glanced back at her computer. I walked out of the office and leaned over her desk.

“Did you get an outfit for this weekend?” I asked.

She looked up. “Yes, I did.”

“How much of a dent did you make?”

Jordan smirked. “The dress was the cheapest thing, to be honest. It’s hard finding non-matronly dresses in my size.”

That was a pity. If she would let me, I would take her to get customized clothes that were made perfectly for her curvy body. “How much?”

“You requested the Louboutins.”

I chuckled. “I don’t mind.”

“I realized my backpack wouldn’t work on a nice evening. The wallet was the most expensive thing.”

“How much?”

“Six thousand-ish.”

I straightened up and pulled an extra set of keys out of my pocket. “Well, I hope it’s worth it,” I said. “I talked to my partner. Could you pick him up and take him to my place before coming to work?”

“I guess that’s what you are paying me for,” she said. “But no problem at all.”
