“Yeah, too bad I never showed you.”

“Hey guys, what ‘cha talking about?” Brian interrupted.

I twisted away from Cal. His hand didn’t move. “Talking about you hitting on anyone with legs,” he said.

“Well, I can’t get lost in the code. Unfortunately,” he pointedly looked at Cal. “I have actual work to do. So legs it is. That one with legs wants me to go home with him tonight. So, that is what I’m doing when we are done with this dinner.”

Cal smiled. His hand trailed farther up my thigh. I glanced at him with my eyes wide, but he wouldn’t look at me. I steeled my jaw. Brian pushed a box in front of me. I could feel my face warming.

“That’s yours. We’ll be communicating through that.”

I opened the box and saw there was a new expensive phone inside. “Why?”

“He’s paranoid about security. This is a custom. Mine is the same way,” Cal responded. “He gets them and does his own things to it.”

“Cal’s and my numbers are already in there. Enjoy.”

“What happens if I quit?”

Brian shrugged. “Delete my number and enjoy the parting gift?”

My brows furrowed as I slipped the phone into my clutch with my other phone. “You two are so weird.”

“You’ll get used to it,” Cal said.

“We take care of our own. We’ve been a two-man operation for so long. It’s nice to have a new face in the company.”

“Well, not for long. At this rate, we’re going to have to actually hire people, like youshouldhave.”

I took a sip of my wine. His fingers continued to trail higher up the seam of my thighs. I wished my body didn’t respond to his touch so easily. A surge of lust coursed through my body. “You know, what Cal did isn’t how you really hire folks.”

Brian laughed. “You’re right. I rarely do things right.”

“The app has been his life for a few years. We’re going to be expanding and that involves actual people.”

“Boo people,” he muttered. His eyes drifted to the man at the bar. “Except for some people.”

I motioned toward the man he had been chatting up. “You don’t like people yet you flirt with everything?” Cal pinched my inner thighs, and I jumped. I suppressed the noise, elbowing him; he winked at me.

Brian turned as he also glanced at his paramour. He shrugged. “A quick fuck differs from actually interacting with someone every day.”

I opened my mouth to argue .

Cal leaned toward me again. “Ignore him. He’s a walking contradiction.”

Brian finished a couple more bites of his food and stood up. “Well, guys, I’m going. I think we talked about the importance of getting to know you, things we needed to do with your new assistant. Thanks for helping us, Jordan,” he said. He took a swig of his wine and sauntered off. I turned toward Cal.

“Why did you keep doing that? You know, touching me?”

“I love seeing you flustered. Now, be a good girl and spread your legs.” His fingers slid up my thigh. “I’m addicted to you in all the ways.”

“We’re in public! People eat here!” I hissed. My heart fluttered at his words. He was tempting. I couldn’t let myself forget we were boss and employee.

“There are many things I want to eat, but they’re not on the menu.” His hand slipped between my legs further. He was slowlygetting closer and closer to the v of my legs. “Just relax. For one night. Give me one night.”

“Fuck.”

“Well, we can do that afterwards. Especially since Brian is going somewhere else tonight,” he whispered. “Just one night.”
