Cal looked at me. “What?”

“You’re fucking your assistant, but just said he couldn’t. Don’t you see it? Either way, I’ll make sure he knows. But I’ll have to find someone patient enough to deal with him; I think it would be great. It would help everything. You know, in the age of apps and websites, I’ve always heard of websites struggling. People would say, it’s only a two-man team. I didn’t understand. Now, I understand. It’s possible. And you’re too oblivious to see the growing pains. You two need to figure out both your lives. I can’t fix everything. Not by myself. Like I said, what you are doing at your dad’s company is stupid. You don’t need to be there. You and Brian can have a thriving company without the toxic workspace of your dad’s.”

“You say it is toxic, but you work there.”

I frowned as I stomped my foot. “You say that like it’s that simple. We all have to work in toxic environments sometimes. Things were simpler before you showed up. I was just?—”

“That’s a lie. You were swimming with the sharks just as much as everyone else was. You thought you were safe.”

My mouth fell open as I paused. Shit, he was right. I tried my best to stay out of the toxic waters, but I was in the waters with them. “Well, it pays. I don’t think you fully realize that a company that pays a decent wage with good benefits is rare.”

He sighed. “Can you help Brian and me?”

I sighed. “You have me doing two jobs. You need to forget your dad’s company and do the thing with Brian for real. An office, actual staff. Stuff like that. You don’t need this.”

Cal stalked over to me and grabbed me by the waist. His fingers grabbed the bottom of my chin and tilted my head up. Cal’s lips brushed against mine and his other hand pulled my hips closer to his body. The smoldering desire for him rekindled as his fingers grasped onto my hips. Maybe I was just as bad as the others. Here I was screwing my boss every moment I could. He pulled away.

“I could think of lots of bonuses I could throw your way,” he murmured.

I swallowed. “Sex doesn’t pay like that. I’ve got bills and there is a nice set of fire poi that I want.”

“I can buy you whatever you want.” His thumb drew circles on my cheek. My heart beat wildly in my chest. How much of a goner was I for this man?

I pulled back from his arms. “Okay. Well, I will see you at work on Monday?”

He frowned. “Why don’t you stay? I can take you out for dinner. We could go on a nice date. I want to give yousomuch.”

“And somehow get caught? We’re walking a fine line. I don’t want to get fired.”

“I’m your boss! I think I can figure this out to make sure you are safe.”

“Exactly! You can’t save me if the wrong person finds out! They don’t trust you. They’ll fire me no matter what! I can only imagine what the tabloids or the papers would say. I’m not safe.” I turned on my heels and grabbed my stuff.

That has to be the last time. If only my pussy would get the picture. Or my heart.

Chapter 35

Jordan

Alana grabbed me as I turned the corner. The papers in my arms fluttered with the quick stop. “Hey, what's that for?” I asked.

“How is your new job?”

“It's fine. Why do you ask?”

Alana turned her head a few times. She whispered, “So, I overheard that one of the customers wants to meet the prodigal son of the big guy. He’s big into the family business sort of thing. You’ve seen them during that big Christmas event they held for the customers. Reginald Marks.”

Faintly, I remembered him and his company. “Okay. So?”

“He won't travel here.”

“What are you sayin’?” I replied.

“Caleb and you need to go to them this weekend. All on the company, of course. He’s gotta woo him to stick with the company instead of going to the competitors.”

My heart dropped to my stomach. That means more time alone with him and I didn’t trust myself with him. I told him thisweekend that Saturday had to be the last time but my current abilities to keep away from him was zero. I groaned. “Really?”

“Yep. But it's a secret. So, shhhh.”
