“Is that the only reason you quit?”

“I caused it to happen.”

I stopped eating and turned my body towards him. My brows furrowed in confusion. “What?”

“After I saw what he did to you, I investigated it. I was trying to convince everyone to go to Alana, but it obviously backfired. One of them posted online instead. You weren’t supposed to be fired. I kinda did it to protect you and everybody really.”

“They took my phone before that. This was the plan all along. When I went to that class and they saw the two phones, they probably figured out they would find something. I dunno what they were looking for, but our texts were pretty damning.”

“What was I under?”

“Originally, Cal. But then asshole. I don’t remember what it was the week they took it. I changed it whenever I was pissed.Maybe bosshole at one point. I’m sure they dug through the messages and figured out it was you.”

“Are you mad at me? You warned me the entire time.”

“It was a dead end job for me. I’m more than an assistant. I can do more than shuffle papers. That’s where I was just now. Interviewing for a manager position in another office,” I said.

“Keep working for Brian and I. Help us set up an actual office. Train James.”

I pursed my lips. Did I tell him her name was Jaime? I knew that her official paperwork said James per Donovan’s request. “What about us?”

“Can weofficiallydate?” He slipped a piece of paper toward me.

“What’s this?”

“I filled that out and sent it to Alana the day I realized it wasyou. That’s why you should have never been fired. It was evidence we were dating before I started working there.”

I opened the paper and saw the form. “Why didn’t she talk to me about it? Why didn’t I have to sign it? I don’t think they thought that out.”

“I asked her to keep it a secret. I told her we’d be professional in the office.”

I couldn’t help laughing loudly. “You’re a liar then. We fucked like bunnies on your work trip. That wasnotprofessional.”

“Will you go out with me? I’ve only professed my love to you a few times. But I can do grand gestures. I can take you to a fancy restaurant.”

“You did already.”

“That was work,” Cal replied. “I want to take you on a real date. Let me wine and dine you. I want to spoil you.”

“You finger fucked me inside it.”

He reached over and grabbed my hands. “Please Jordan. I love you. You’reitfor me.”

I sighed. “Brian’s on board. What about our relationship with the company?”

“Fuck, I would marry you right now if it’d make things okay.”

My eyes widened as I laughed. “You will not propose to me like this.”

“Brian would like you to be more than just my assistant. Basically, he’s so grateful to just work on the apps that he’d give you the world.”

“But what doyouwant?”

His hands grabbed my cheeks as he leaned closer to me. “I want you. Forever. Right now. All the time.”

I leaned in closer for a kiss. His lips landed on mine. His hands moved to my hips as he pulled me onto his lap. I pulled back. “Hey. I said nothing, yet.”

“Is that a yes? For everything?”

I giggled. “I guess. But you’re on probation.”

Cal picked me up and walked me to the bedroom. “Let me work on getting off that probation,” he whispered as he placed me on the bed. He sighed. “Thank you for giving me another chance.”

I kicked my pants off. “Work off your probation already,” I murmured with a small giggle.

His finger slid around the waistband of my pants. “Yes, ma’am.”
