Nick eyeballed Samson. “Jax didn’t tell you?” Acting petty wasn’t helpful, but Nick didn’t like being questioned.

“He said he caught Cheryl at your place, but?—”

“Then I’m sure he also told you I was half dressed and she had a bed sheet wrapped around her.”

“His exact words were, you looked like you’d been screwin’ your brains out and she looked fuck-drunk.”

Nick sprawled out on the leather couch. “I didn’t know my sex life was so interesting, but it sounds like you got the whole story.”

“Ohhhh, I think there’s way more to the story,” Samson challenged.

Nick threw his arms over the back of the sofa. “You got something to say, just spit it out and stop acting like a pussy.”

“Bad enough we got Russo in Vegas who is surely working for Frank and who may even be his eyes and ears, but you decide it’s a good idea to screw his wife.”

“She called me.” Nick flipped out the comment with a shoulder shrug.

“Right and instead of telling her to back off you fall into bed with her.”

“It wasn’t like that.”

“C’mon, Nick, who do you think you’re talking to? Ever since you thought you saw her here in the VIP, and at Johnny’s house party, you’ve been twisted up. Then you set up a party at the club which had nothing to do with the club and everything to do with seeing her again. You go missing with her for almost twenty minutes, and then for a grand finale you have her in your apartment when you should’ve been here taking care of business.”

“I had no idea this bullshit was going on.”

“You would’ve if you had your fuckin’ phone on. I texted and called you for almost an hour before I sent Jax to your place.”

“Nothing I could’ve done anyway.” Nick plugged a cigarette between his lips then concentrated on his lighter.

“Not the point and you fuckin’ know it. We’re partners and just like back in New York the minute you get with her you get all twisted.”

“Bullshit.” Nick spit the word out with a sneer.

“It’s not.” Samson lowered himself into the chair facing Nick. “She got under your skin from the very first time. Back in the day she fuckin’ stole from us and you forgave her. Or did you forget about that?”

“Now you’re just digging shit up. That was a long fuckin’ time ago and a lot has changed.”

“But has she?”

“Has she, what?”

“Changed. Could be you don’t even really know her anymore. Ten years is a long fuckin’ time. She’s got a new name, and not only is she married to Frank’s number one guy, she’s his daughter.”

“Don’t mean shit—” Nick raised a brow daring Samson to continue.

“Did you ever stop to think since she’s Frank’s daughter and married to Russo maybe she’s on their side—as in working for them.”

“Impossible.”

Cheryl’s words rang in Nick’s ears. How Frank tried to help her after she went to L.A. Like she believed the bullshit he was throwing. She almost made him sound human.

“Funny thing though how you usually get to the club way before me and Jax and yet tonight you were delayed.” Samson threw up his hands. “I mean, it’s the oldest trick in the book. The beautiful woman distracts the guy while her accomplices do the job.”

“Now you’re really stretching.”

“Am I?”

There was a knock on the door then Jax entered with a laptop tucked under his arm.
