“You think Russo would be happy with you up here screwin’ his wife?”

“I don’t know and I don’t really give a fuck what he wants.”

“Maybe that’s part of the problem, maybe you better start giving a fuck because messin’ with her is the worst idea ever.”

Nick backed away from Jax. “Tell Samson I’m on my way.”

Nick swiped his phone off the coffee table and saw a shit-ton of calls and texts from Samson. The front door slammed behind Jax and Nick trudged into the bedroom pushing Jax’s warningsaside. He had enough to deal with right now without worrying about his future with Cheryl. A future he wasn’t giving up on.

“What happened?” Cheryl had already dressed.

“Somebody broke into the club and did some damage.”

“That’s terrible.”

He closed the distance between them. “I gotta go, but we are no way done here. We’re gonna figure this out and we’re gonna do it together.”

“It’s not going to be easy.”

“Big fuckin’ surprise.” Nick huffed out a laugh, then cupped her face with his palm. “When has anything with us ever been easy?” He leaned in and brushed her lips with his, then pulled back before he hauled her into bed again. “I’ll call you.”

Thirty minutes later, Nick stood in the doorway of the stockroom amid an ocean of liquor and shards of glass. “Who the fuck did this?”

Nick’s stomach flipped at the noxious smell of the combined liquors in waves on the concrete floor. He waded into the room and stopped at the locked cabinet they used to house their high-end cognacs and bourbons. The glass door was pried open and smashed along with bottles of Remy Martin Louis XIII, and Hennessy Paradis. These few bottles alone were in the upper thousands. Considering the rest of the wrecked stock and they were looking at least over a hundred thousand dollars in lost revenue.

“Good question.” Samson already contacted the cleaning service and enlisted the bouncers to announce the club would be closed for the night. He then posted on their social media Club Wicked would be temporarily closed due to technical difficulties.

“I can’t fuckin’ believe this.”

“Me neither.” Samson shook his head and Nick waited for him to say something else, but he stayed silent.

Jax joined them. “Just got off the phone with our suppliers. Placed new orders. Shipments should be here by tomorrow.”

“Then we only lose tonight.” Nick motioned to the main bar. “Nothing else fucked with?”

“Nothing we could find.”

The three men faced each other a simmering frisson between them.

“Insurance will cover the damage, and tomorrow night we open as usual,” Nick said.

“Can we have a word?” Samson nodded to the elevators leading to their offices.

Nick followed Samson, then they silently rode up the elevator.

Samson closed the office door behind them and whirled around. “What the fuck are you thinkin’?”

“You gonna blame this bullshit on me?”

“I don’t know what to think. Obviously it wasn’t a prank or a pissed off employee. Whoever did this disarmed the security system, a system the salesman said was impossible to crack, then proceeded to trash pallets of booze.”

“I guess our issue is with the security company then.” Nick knew exactly what Samson wanted to say, but shit, he wasn’t gonna make it easy for him.

“This was more than one person. This was planned.”

“Anybody look at the security cameras yet?”

“Jax is working on it. I told him to bring it up here when he gets it together.” Samson paused then. “So, where were you all day?”
