He laughed, a chilling sound that echoed through the air like a death knell. “You believe that’s enough to sway me? You’re more naive than I thought.”

“Then prove me wrong,” I challenged, my voice barely above a whisper. “Let them go. Show me that there’s still something left inside you worth saving.”

The Viper regarded me for a moment, as if appraising the sincerity of my words. Then, with a twisted grin, he nodded.

“Very well,” he said, his voice cold and cruel. “You can take Sam – but Sofia stays with me.”

My heart sank at his words, but I forced myself to remain calm. Absolutely fucking not, I wanted to say. I wanted to hurt him.

Torture him.

“No,” I said. “No, I…”

“Yes,” Sofia replied. “Okay. Let Sam go.”

My gaze widened. “Sofia, what…”

“Let Sam go first,” I demanded, trying to maintain control over the tense situation. If I got him away from them, maybe I would be able to shoot at their dad and get Sofia back.

“Fine,” the Viper agreed, his voice dripping with malice. He shoved Sam towards me, but as he did, he turned abruptly and fired his custom-made revolver just inches from Sofia’s feet, the sound echoing throughout the clearing.

Time seemed to slow down as I lunged forward, my heart racing in my chest. The smell of gunpowder filled my nostrils, and my ears rang from the deafening gunshot. I narrowly avoided being hit by the ricocheting bullet, but it was enough to momentarily disorient me.

“Teo!” Sofia cried out, reaching for me as the Viper dragged her into the cabin.

“Let her go, you bastard!” My voice cracked, my vision blurry as tears welled up in my eyes.

“Sorry, Teo, but I have plans for her,” the Viper sneered, pulling Sofia deeper into the cabin.

“Stay with Sam!” I yelled to the others as I charged after them, knowing that they’d continue to engage the Viper’s henchmen outside.

The heavy wooden door slammed shut just as I reached it, a resounding thud that echoed through the air like a death knell. I threw my weight against the door, desperately trying to force it open, but it held firm. My leg flared up with the exertion, but I didn’t care – all that mattered was getting to Sofia.

“Teo, don’t!” Sam’s anguished voice called out behind me, but I barely registered it. My mind was consumed by images of Sofia trapped inside the cabin with that monster.

“Help me break this down,” I ordered the others who had joined me, my voice desperate and raw.

“Teo, it’s reinforced – we need to find another way in,” Sam said, his eyes scanning the area for any other possible entrance points.

“How could you let him do this?” I asked him.

“I didn’t let…you know what. It doesn’t matter. You’re right. We need to break in. We need to get her back.”

“Or we can create one,” Grayson suggested, his usually calm demeanor strained as he surveyed the cabin’s exterior. I guessedthey had gotten the situation with the henchmen in hand and they had now come to help, but it was far too late. “Maybe we can break through a window or a wall.”

“Let’s try that,” I agreed, my voice laced with impatience. The thought of Sofia trapped inside with the Viper gnawed at me like a ravenous beast, leaving no room for rational thought. I needed to get her out, now.

As we circled the cabin, searching for a weak point, a sudden explosion ripped through the air, sending us all sprawling to the ground. My ears rang, and I could barely make out the panicked shouts of my teammates as a thick cloud of dust and debris engulfed the area.

“Was that one of ours?” Skylar said, struggling to catch his breath as we picked ourselves up.

“Must’ve been a diversionary bomb,” Zane brushed dirt off his clothes. “The Viper must have planted them throughout the area to throw us off.”

“Damn him,” I cursed, my anger reaching a boiling point. “We don’t have time for this! Sofia’s in there!”

“Primo, we need to stay focused,” Bash reminded me, his eyes darting around the chaos. “We can’t help her if we’re dead.”

“Right,” I muttered, swallowing hard as I forced myself to take a deep breath. My heart raced, but I couldn’t let fear cloud my judgment.
