“Damn right she does.” I kiss her shoulder before following her out of bed and slipping into a pair of sweats.

“I know that I am absolutely morbid with it. But I feel like it’s one of those things that if I don’t laugh about it, I’m going to break down and start crying, and then I’ll never stop. And I don’t want to be like that. I can’t be like that.”

“I’m here.” We leave the bedroom and she follows me to the kitchen of our temporary accommodations since we’re still house-hunting in Boston. “I know that I can’t help with much, but I am here. I’m not going anywhere, and I will be here no matter what. I’ll destroy your monsters, and I’ll even tolerate pineapple and pepperoni together on a pizza that you can eat by yourself.”

Casper laughs, but I can already see her picking up her phone to put in an order for food and there’s no doubt in my mind that she’s getting pizza.

“Do you think adding pickles to it would be good too?” She shakes her head. “Never mind, I’m just going to do it and I can figure out if I like it later. If I don’t, I’ll just eat yours.”

While she’s busy ordering food, I decide that enough is enough. The family group chat needs to chime in on this shit because I’m not sure which is worse, pickles or pineapple.

Cole: This is my life now. Pickles and pineapple and pepperoni on pizza.

Sean: You knocked her up. You gotta deal with the cravings.

Miles: That’s your nephew in there. Or niece. Don’t be a dick.

Cole: So no pity for me for the three Ps on a pizza.

Emmett: None.

Sori: Pickles on pizza with pineapple actually sounds good right now.

“Hey, Casper.” I glance up to see her watching me with a smile on her face.

In my hand I feel my phone vibrate with more incoming texts but I don’t take the time to look at them. The burning question on the tip of my tongue is right there, and I know Casper will have the answer.

“Sori’s not pregnant again with you, is she?”

Her smile grows wider, more devious, and I know I’m right.

Miles: Bet she’s pregnant too.

Sean: Knocked up.

Miles: We’re the only two still safe.

Sean: Never gonna happen.

Miles: Both just re-enlisted. Keepin’ it locked up until I’m out.

Sean: Why aren’t Emmett and Sori answering?

Miles: Holy shit, they really are pregnant.

Sean: Bet Emmett didn’t know.

I put my phone down, done with the onslaught of messages that my brothers will just keep sending no matter what I do at this point.

“You don’t really think it’s gonna taste that bad, do you?” Casper watches me from her seat at the kitchen island, where she’s made herself comfortable. “Pickles added to my regular.”

“Baby,” I chide softly. “You put a fuckin’ fruit on your pizza already. Adding another thing to it isn’t gonna make it taste any better to me. You’re gonna have to decide that all on your own.”

I’m honestly just happy that we’re able to smile still after the day we’ve both had. Arguing about pineapple on pizza and adding pickles to the mix is my favorite thing in the world right now.

That and making love to the woman who refuses to marry me until we can plan an actual wedding.

One that she insists on having both my brothers present for.
