Except she hadn’t been dating. She was still nursing the remnants of a broken heart after Cain, her college boyfriend, had suddenly left her two years ago.

Okay, fine, yes, it was two years.

But her mom had died of heart disease seven weeks after Cain broke up with her and those two events had knocked her over.

Now with her birthday approaching, she’d felt obliged to get her family back from Randall Scott.

Her birth father.

Kennedy Enterprises had been built by her maternal great-grandfather and had passed down to the next generation.

When her mom, Tina Kennedy, had married Randall, they had taken up the reins while her father also took a place on the board. Her grandfather had already passed on.

But things had not turned out how her ancestors would have wanted it.

Not at all.

Randall Scott was not the man her mother had fallen in love with. He’d been abusive while her mother was pregnant, and when Bella was born, it hadn’t stopped. Then her parents, Bella’s grandparents, had been tragically killed.

Tina, fresh from childbirth, grieving, and a victim of abuse, had fled the violent Hampton’s estate with six-month-old Bella and left the company in her husband’s hands.

She would never tell anyone what he had done to her, but it had scared her both physically and emotionally. So much so, her mother refused to step back into the company.

Bella had never met her father.

Everything she knew she got from the media and her mother. Randall Scott was known as a cold and influential mogul who loved the spotlight.

Of course he was. He had her family’s company. Kennedy Enterprises was a digital online shopping platform which sold everything. Everything! They also had brick-and-mortar stores in the major cities around the United States.

As the CEO, Randall Scott was a powerful man. He could make or break a small business owner by allowing them to sell in his stores and online.

Or he simply cut them off.

The image she had of her birth father as a cold and cruel businessman was not the same as the power she’d felt exude from Blake.

In just the five minutes they’d spent together.

It scared her.

It exhilarated her.

So it was better that she get tonight over with and keep away from a dominant man like him who apparently had the ability to control her clothing choices with a single gravelly whispered instruction.

Tomorrow, she would devise a plan to secure her family’s legacy back into its rightful hands.

Hers.

Bella stood and flicked through the racks until she found her black silk Chanel cowl-neck blouse and a very short black skirt that hugged her bottom. She held them up in the mirror.

Was she going to follow Blake’s orders?

Good girl.

Bella clenched her thighs as the aching heat returned.Oh God.Bella hoped she could resist this man.

It was only for a few hours.

Then she would never have to see him again.
