“Well, well, well.” Jacob took a step closer. “Did my big brother just get rejected?”

Blake kept his eyes on Bella as she faded into the crowd. Then he slowly poured the remains of his whisky down his throat.

“No,” he replied darkly.

He almost said he was after seconds, but Bella didn’t deserve that. And he wasn’t sure two or even three was going to be enough.

Was he considering dating her?

Jesus.

The timing couldn’t be worse. He had a company to save. Still, as a Montgomery, she would understand the demands of a wealthy family and businessman.

Bella was an art history major, not an experienced businesswoman, but he could tell she was smart.

Was he willing to cross the room and make small talk with Philadelphia’s wealthiest and ignore the piranhas circling the woman he couldn’t stop thinking about since laying eyes on her? Since tasting her?

Since fucking her until her eyes had rolled into the back of her head as he’d praised her for being such a sweet, beautiful girl?

No.

The answer was not a fucking chance.

Blake wanted to know why he felt like he was inside an episode of Bridgerton while her brother was introducing her to the ton.

Because he was sure that’s what was happening.

And yet, he, as a Dufort, had been excluded.

“She’s one beautiful woman,” one of the men said.

“Yes,” Tom said. “I’m surprised Knox was so chill. I’ve asked him a handful of times to introduce me to his sister and every time he’s nearly knocked me out.”

Blake rubbed his stiff jaw.

“Okay caveman, let’s take a walk.” Jacob led him a few feet away. “Who the fuck is she?”

“The woman I’m taking home tonight. Again,” Blake said.

“Christ, don’t you go and get married now.” Jacob threw his head back and exaggerated a groan.

Blake laughed and slapped him on the back. “No chance of that. So, where are these twins?”

He wasn’t giving up, but for now he’d watch from a distance.

“Follow me, Brother.” Jacob grinned. “You should join in. No swords crossing. Promise.”

“Dude.”

Jacob held his free hand up and laughed.
