Faux speed dating wasexhausting. So was having a pair of dominant eyes following you around the room.
Knox wasn’t helping, either. Between each of his introductions, he was interrogating her about Blake.
“How do you know him? Are you seeing him? You didn’t sleep with Dufort, did you? If you’re even considering him for this partnership, then think again,” Knox said.
“I’m not,” Bella replied.
“His family is far too powerful, and you’ll just end up in the same position as Mom.”
Blake wouldn’t do that.
She didn’t know for sure because anything was possible, but she’d already deduced that Blake would have nothing to gain from her offer.
Plus, Blake Dufort hardly needed a fake wife. Nor did she want to embarrass herself by asking him.
Now or ever.
The fact she couldn’t get a man to fall in love with her and want to marry her on her own merit was shameful.
Bella would die if he found out.
So no, Blake Dufort was not an option.
But that didn’t mean she wasn’t aching to have him touch her again. To feel his touch. To kiss his soft lips and have his huge body press down on hers.
God, she did.
She really did.
When he’d invited her to go home with him again, she had nearly leaped into his arms and screamed yes. But tonight Knox had gone out of his way to do as she’d asked, and Bella would honor that.
It wasn’t comfortable for him, nor her, and nothing about this was natural.
For over an hour, Knox introduced her to more men. Some of them were really nice, but it was going to take more than a short chat to know if any of them were the right ones. As agreed, she’d taken mental notes of their names and would phone her brother tomorrow to discuss and set up a date with them.
Assuming they were interested.
She knew Tom was. Alex, a stockbroker, also seemed like someone she could be compatible with. And there was also Tyrell, a very handsome, tall black man.
All suitable.
All evening, Blake had watched her.
