BELLA FELT HER BODYshaking. It was crazy that she was this nervous. But the man sitting opposite her was different from the one she’d lain next to in the hospital bed. The one who greeted her at the door with desire and affection.

This was Blake Dufort, the billionaire businessman.

Sharp, powerful, demanding.

All the traits she should be looking for in a partner to secure her inheritance. But he looked about as receptive to a marriage proposal as a root canal patient.

Bella swallowed.

He wanted to know who she was, and she was going to tell him. Aside from her Montgomery family, Blake was the first person she was going to tell.

“My real name is Bella Scott,” she said, forcing the name out.

His brows raised.

“My mother was Tina Kennedy,” she added.

“Related to...the president? What am I missing here, sweetheart?” Blake asked, lifting a brow.

Of course he’d think that. It was the most popular association with the name.

When she was born, she was given her father’s name. Ward had offered her his name, which she used, but had never officially changed it. Two years ago she thought she would take Cain's name when they married but, yeah, that hadn’t worked out.

Now she planned to take her mother's maiden name and would do it once her plan was in place.

“Related to Kennedy Enterprises,” Bella said. “My great-grandfather built the company.”

Blake cursed and climbed to his feet. She watched him run his hand through his hair.

“You are related to Randall fucking Scott?” he asked, snapping his eyes to hers.

“I am.” She nodded.

“Is this a joke? Is this about InkWell?” Blake growled. “Does he know you are here?”

She shook her head. “No. No! I am not my father. Blake let me explain. I have a proposal for you and if you want to throw me out afterward, then I will leave.”

His hands landed on his hips. “Fuck him. I’m not selling my fucking company and if this is—”

“Stop, Blake. Just forget it. I’ll leave. I should never have come over.” Bella stood.

“Damn right.” Blake glared at her, panting.

She glared back, blinking.

He might not know what she was going to say, but the pangs of rejection were already taking hold of her heart.

“Fuck. Fuck!” Blake turned, taking a few steps, then spun back, crossed the distance, and gripped her face.

Bella gasped.

“Tell me you didn’t fuck me over, Bella. Tell me!” He growled darkly. “I want you. I want my cock deep inside you so goddamn badly, but I am seconds away from hating you and that is not okay.”

Her heart thumped in her chest, shaken by the intensity of this man who towered over her with angry eyes full of lust.

Which was why the following words just fell out of her mouth.

“No. Blake. I want you to marry me.”
