“Does he know about Kennedy Enterprises?” Ward asked.

For the millionth time, she thought about coming clean with them. Knox knew, but it was just easier if she didn’t have four protective testosterone-rich people to convince her idea wasn’t insane.

One was enough.

She wanted them to think they’d fallen in love and support her in this. If she was going to be in a sham marriage, they’d need as many people believing this as possible. Especially as the media would be hot on this once it was announced.

A Dufort getting engaged was news.

The heiress of Kennedy Enterprises was bigger news.

They would have the eyes of America on them. The fewer who knew the truth, the better.

“No.”

“I see. So I assume that means, unless he proposes in three months, you’re walking away from your trust,” Ward said.

“Yes,” she lied as Ward studied her.

“Bullshit,” Knox muttered behind a bite of his bread roll, so only she could hear.

“He must be important to you.”

“I like him a lot,” Bella replied and found that she wasn’t lying this time.

She did like him.

She even liked the idea of living with him. She most certainly loved having sex with him.

His dominance, despite knowing she was far wealthier than him, was a complete attraction.

At times she had wondered if Cain would feel threatened when he found out. Blake hadn’t at all. He was taking control and damn, that was sexy.

He hadn’t asked her to move in.

He’d told her.

It should irritate her, but she loved that he wanted her in his home. In his life. In his bed.

She couldn’t believe she was marrying—fake or not—such a gorgeous and amazing man. Lover.

The way he made her feel, even with those gray eyes of his, was beyond anything she’d thought was possible. A glance across the room had her toes curling.

But...

But she had to remember Blake Dufort wasn’t in love with her. Wasn’t going to be her real husband, and he had his reasons for doing this.

And they weren’t because he loved her.

Maybe she needed to get it tattooed on the inside of her eyes, because Bella had a feeling his charm was going to blur reality and she could fall for the tall, handsome man.

Lunch with her family had wrapped up quickly after that, with Ward saying he had to race back to the office.

“You’re moving in with him! The fuck, Bella.” Knox had stopped her as the others walked outside. “He knows, doesn’t he?”

It was no use lying to him. He deserved the truth after she’d dragged him into this last weekend.

“Yes, and he’s agreed to help me. It’s a good partnership. He’s a good man.”
