I nod several times swiping away my tears.

“Good. I will be back at 7pm sharp to pick you up. Do not keep me waiting.”

Not wanting another hit I quickly tell him, “I’ll be ready, I promise.”

Blowing out an exacerbated sigh he walks out the door slamming it behind him.

I burry my head in my hands feeling the sting on my face. The bastard hit me. He fucking hit me. No wonder why my mother wanted to run away from him, even if it did eventually lead her to her death. It was a chance she had to take. Those two years of freedom must have been worth it. To run or to lead a life as a mafia wife, chained up never to be free to do as she pleased. To have to ask permission to go anywhere, buy anything, or even leave the house. To live in fear all her life looking over her shoulder. Or to run. Run as fast as she could as far as she could. I would have ran too. I clutch my tight chest. That’s why the lady in my room told me to leave isn’t it? She knew what Ian would do, that he would beat me into submission. Realisation hits me like a tidal wave making me nauseas. Will Ian allow me to go to college? Allow me to live a normal life? Panic rises in my chest making it hard to breathe because I know the answer to those questions is no.

Oh God I need to escape this; I need to leave. The first opportunity I get I need to run.

“But you can’t” a little voice speaks inside my head. “They will find you and kill you just the same as they did with Viola.”

Tears spill onto the soft carpet where I lie. Caleb. I need Caleb.

Chapter Sixty

Caleb

“Heyman.Wherehaveyou been all night? Dads been calling you.” Saint asks walking out of Lexy’s room looking dishevelled closing her door behind him.

“I had something to take care of,” I inform him opening my bedroom door and throwing myself onto my bed. Its only 6pm but and I’m ready for this day to be over already so I can go to her.

Saint stands arms folded leaning on my doorway.

“Don’t get too comfortable. We’ve been summoned to go to a party tonight,” Saint informs me. “Not just us either, all the families have been summonsed.”

“Oh yeah, what’s the occasion?” I ask uncaring. I won’t be there whatever it is. There’s only one place I will be tonight and that’s balls deep in Jordin.

“So you don’t want to go to Jordin’s party then? No worries,” he shrugs turning away from my door. “I’ll just let him know that you’re sitting this one out then shall I?”

I bolt upright from my bed, my ears immediately perking up at hearing her name.

“What did you say? Get back here, Saint.” I call out after him.

He peeks his head back around my door.

“Thought hearing her name might change your mind,” he sniggers.

“What the fuck? What do you mean party? A party for what for? Why did no one say anything?”

Why didn’t she say anything?

“If you answered your phone when I rang you would have known about it sooner dickhead. Where the fuck were you?”

“Taking care of some business like I said the first time.”

“What business?”

“My business!”

“Your business is my business,” he retorts.

“Oh yeah? So what were you doing coming out of Lexy’s room just now? That my business to then?”

He tightens his crossed arms jaw flexing.

“Thought so,” I snap.
