“I’m not. I want to see what all the fuss is about.”

We take the freshly baked cookies Ms Watson baked for us up to Lexy’s room. It’s nothing like the rest of this house. The room is painted light grey with white trim along the windows and door frames. A large four poster bed sits in the middle of the room, along with a dressing table and a desk.

Sure, its big but it’s filled with pictures of her and some friends when she was younger and some with her and a man who I assume is her father.

“I’m not really big on parties anymore if I’m honest.”

“How come? Didn’t go to any in your last school?”

“Yeah I did, but I dunno, there kind of all the same. You go, get drunk on cheap beer, fight off guys trying to get into your pants all night, then wake up with a raging hangover the next day. Know what I mean?”

She slowly shakes her head side to side thinning her lips, “I wouldn’t know. I’ve never actually been to a party before.”

“You’re kidding,” I tease.

She shakes her head again.

“Saint remember? And not just him surprisingly enough. My mom is just as bad as he is when it comes to parties. Even before we moved in here she would never allow me, saying I was too young. Which really infuriates the hell out of me because she knows Saint has party’s here all the time when her and Eric are away. She just won’t say anything about it because its him. Then when I ask to go to one I’m always told no. Like how can seventeen be to young to go to a bloody party? It’s a piss take; I mean most girls my age aren’t even virgins for fucks sake. Then there’s me lame Lexy who’s still a virgin.”

She quickly cups her mouth with a look of horror on her face like she’s just spilled a secret no one else knows.

“I see,” I nod, quirking my eyebrows.

She buries her face in her hands.

“Shit. I’m mortified. I didn’t mean to blurt that out. Please don’t tell anyone. I’m not a prude or anything, I’ve done other things, just not that. Oh god, what am I saying I need to stop talking now.”

I call out to her. When she doesn’t answer I gently place my hands on her shoulders to gain her attention.

“Lex?”

Her eyes peek out from behind her fingers.

“Can we just skip over the part where I said that?” she pleads.

“Sure. I can pretend if you want, but if we’re going to be friends I want you to know that you can tell me anything and I swear I will never break your confidence or laugh. There’s no judgement here babe. I’m your friend because I want to be not because I want to bang your brother like the others.”

“Stepbrother,” she hastily clarifies.

“Whatever. Trust me there’s no chance in hell of that ever happening. ZERO! And there’s nothing wrong with being a virgin either. A lot of girls I know still are.”

Her brows quirk up, “Oh really,” she says menacingly, her soft laugher filling the bedroom. “I take it you’re not then?”

I slowly shake my head.

“Back home I was dating someone.”

“You were dating? Did you guys break up or are you trying the whole long-distance thing?”

“It’s complicated.”

“How can you kinda break up and it still be complicated?”

“He’s working through some stuff I guess.”

She bobs her head making an o shape with her mouth.

“So much for the honestly pep talk bestie.”
