“The night I found him with Sarah, I never seen him lose it like that. He started with the whole cliché pleading. You know, the whole, please baby it meant nothing it won’t happen again bullshit. But I refused to listen. When I tried to leave; he pinned me to the floor. I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t fight him off. I wasn’t allowed to move until I said I would forgive him. The more I begged him to stop and let me go the harder he dug in, but I couldn’t do it. I wouldn’t give in refusing to be that girl any longer. I just kept telling him no and screamed at him to get the fuck off me.”

“Holy fuck babe. Where was Sarah when this was happening? Did no one come to help?”

I pause taking a deep breath then shake my head.

“Sarah was there. I don’t know if it was from shock or enjoyment, but she just sat on the edge of the bed watching.”

“WHAT THE FUCK,” Lexy yells. “She just sat there and let him hurt you like that?”

“He slapped me so hard across the face I lost hearing in my left ear for over a week. After that, all I can remember is waking up with his hands around my neck squeezing me so tight and Sarah clawing at his back, screaming for him to stop that he was going to kill me. I don’t know how but I managed to get away. I’ve never ran so fast in my life. My throat was burning so badly that by the time I got home I thought I was going to pass out all over again.”

“That fucking bastard. He should be in jail for what he did to you! It’s not too late to report him you know.”

Another sob racks up my throat as I stand from the bed and walk out through the open balcony door, my lungs suddenly desperate for fresh air. I stare out to the sea, needing a reprieve from the memory I kept locked so tightly away until now.

The gentle breeze calms my skin drying away the fallen tears. I take in the view. Even through blurry eyes it’s a beautiful sight.

“He tried to kill you Jordin. He shouldn’t get away with this. It’s not right,” she says stepping up behind me handing me a clean tissue.

I shake my head. “I can’t Lex. I can’t tell you why but please just trust me on this. I just can’t, no matter how much I want to.”

Her voice is low and sympathetic. “I can see how hard it must have been for you to tell me all this, especially as it’s your first time talking about it since it happened. I’m sorry I pushed you. I know we’ve only known each other for a short time, and I won’t pretend to know what you’ve been through, but just know that whenever and if ever you decide to tell me the rest I’ll be here.”

I thank her, wiping away my tears with shaky hands and blowing my nose into the soft tissue.

When her phone buzzes and she doesn’t answer I ask, “you not going to answer that?” Thinking it might be important.

“Nope, it’s no one more important than you are right now.

Putting a smile back on that gorgeous face is my priority tonight. How about instead of studying for the rest of the evening we have some girlie pamper time? Face masks, nail treatments, the works!”

I nod enthusiastically. It’s exactly what I didn’t know I needed.

Chapter Seventeen

Jordin

Saint,Colton, andCalebare nowhere to be seen but that doesn’t stop the school gossiping about where they could be as Lexy and I walk to our lockers.

“I heard there was a big fight between them and the Rockford Crew and they’re all in jail.”

“I don’t know who told you that because I heard there in Vegas,” Jared announces. It surprises me that he made a comment about them. He’s in my English class and generally keeps to himself.

“That couldn’t be right because Colton’s away partying with some A-lister this week on his new music video in L.A. The guys must have tagged along,” a girl with them weighs in fidgeting with a strand of her long black hair. Sara I think her name is.

“Actually,” Lexy begins loud enough for all to hear. “Saint is at home with a severe case of genital warts.”

I pull her back slightly to stop her, afraid that they’re about to jump out from around the corner but it’s too late for her to back out now, she’s got everyone’s full attention.

“Um, hey Lex maybe you shouldn’t…”

She keeps her face straight turning to me.

“They have a right to know, Jordin,” she says turning back to the gathering crowd.

“Apparently, someone in our school gave it to them, and boy is he pissed. They all are. My poor brother can barely sit down. My mom had to go out and buy him cream and one of those donut ring things that you… well you know, you sit on.” She says wincing when she gestures to her bottom.

I try my hardest to hold back a laugh. They’re eating up her every word. How gullible are these people?
