A scuffle ensues, and Jordin screams again.

“Hold her down,” I hear one man say to someone.

I peek around the corner to see Jordin laying on the grass face down with a man holding down her arms and the other on top of her, undoing his belt and pants. He rips her skirt to reveal her panties, palming her ass cheeks.

She cries out for him to stop, but he doesn’t.

“You know what we do with whores like you? We fuck them bloody,” he snarls, pulling his hard dick from his pants.

Oh my god, he’s going to rape her!

Acting on instinct, I rise to my feet and take out the gun from my pocket, holding it with both hands to keep it steady, aiming at the attacker’s back. I fire two shots, and he falls. Jordin screams as his body slumps on top of her.

With a clear view, I aim at the other man, firing once, but this time I miss.

“I’m going to smash your brains in, you little whore,” he sneers. Rising to his feet, he runs at me at full force.

The second shot I fire doesn’t miss.

The man wails when the bullet hits the right side of his chest and grapples with the wound, groaning and rolling on the ground.

“I’ll fucking kill you, you little cunt,” he screams.

I don’t know how many bullets a gun chamber holds, but I pray that wasn’t the last one.

Keeping the gun trained on him, I yell at Jordin to get up and run to me. Untangling herself from the dead guy, she leaps to her feet, delivering a hard kick in the balls, making him squeal in pain.

“Dirty, murderous, raping bastard.” She rushes to me, her hand grasped tight in mine, and together, we sprint towards the forest.

Once we reach the trees, we can hide until it’s safe.

The sound of a car engine revs nearby, triggering a renewed surge of panic. I try to run faster, but the pain is unbearable.

They’ve come back for us.

My heart thuds heavily in my chest when the car tires screech to a halt.

“Lexy,” a voice calls out in the distance, but I don’t stop.

“Lexy. Jordin.” I hear our names shouted again. This time, I registered who it was.

It’s them. He promised he’d find me, and he did.

Turning back, I see Saint, Colton, and Caleb stepping out of the car. My body drops forward in relief.

They got out. They’re safe.

I let out a heavy exhale.

“Caleb!” Jordin runs toward him, jumping into his waiting arms. He swoops her up, holding her tightly, kissing her like a long-lost lover found at sea.

“Is everyone…”

“We don’t know yet, but we need to get the fuck outta here asap,” he replies and then quickly ushers her into the car.

My body coils with fear. Did my mom make it out?

Saint approaches, but I hold a hand out to stop him from coming closer. My brain is doing overtime as my entire world has been rocked to its very core.
