Julia gives me a pointed look. “That includes you, Saint. You know more than anyone how this works. I’ll come and find you as soon as she’s stable.”

The room begins to clear as they each file out. I don’t move.

“I’m staying.”

“If you want me to treat this girl, you’ll leave,” Julia reinforces.

I battle whether to leave or not, but having watched Julia in action, I know she’s good at what she does. I wouldn’t trust Lexy’s health with anyone else.

Kelly walks around Julia, placing a soft kiss on Lexy’s forehead. “I’ll be right outside, sweetheart,” she whispers, a tear rolling down her face before Amanda places her arm around her waist and leads her out of the room.

“Oh…Mrs. Garo, before you go. Your daughter has lost a lot of blood and may need a transfusion. We’ll need her blood type.”

I cut in before Kelly had the chance to respond. “It’s O positive.”

Julia’s brow lifts in surprise, and I don’t give a fuck. There’s nothing I don’t know about this girl.Nothing.

“It’s the same blood type as her father,” Kelly informs her. “I’m A positive.”

“She can only get blood from someone who’s either O positive or O negative,” Julia tells her, then turns to me. “Saint, find out from your friends if they’re a match.” Her attention diverts to her nurse. “Amanda, can you take care of that for me?”

Amanda speaks for the first time, telling her yes.

“If none of them are a match, someone needs to go to the hospital and get some immediately. I don’t want to take any chances. It’s always good to have some on standby. We can’t be too careful.”

“But that’s a forty-minute drive there and back again,” Kelly squawks. “What if she needs it now?”

“Like I said, it’s just for precaution,” Julia replies calmly, turning her back to put on a green surgical gown.

Wiping the sweat from my brow, I leave, searching for where the others went.

I find them all standing in the kitchen. Caleb and Colton with a whisky in hand while Jordin paces the floors, biting her nails.

“Lexy might need a blood transfusion. Do any of you know your blood type?”

“A negative,” Caleb answers.

“Um, B positive, I think, but I can’t be sure,” Jordin says.

When Colton answers O negative, I release the breath I didn’t realize I was holding.

“Come with me. The nurse needs you,” I instruct before returning to Caleb and Jordin. “Can one of you get Kelly something warm to drink?”

“Yeah, I can do that,” Jordin answers, walking towards Mrs. Watson’s stove.

“Appreciate it. The herbal tea shit she likes is in the top cupboard. It might help calm her a bit. She looks like she’s about to pass out.”

Jordin nods dutifully, and without hesitation, Colton follows me out of the room, rolling up his sleeves.

There’s a drip attached to a bag of fluids hanging above Lexy’s bed where her dream catcher used to be when I return, and Julia inserts something from a needle into Lexy’s arm.

She studies my face and must read the worried expression etched on it.

“It’s for the pain and to keep her unconscious. I don’t want her waking up while cleaning her wound and stitching her up.”

I clear my throat.

“Do what you have to do.”
