Saint stands alongside me on the path of our driveway as we say our goodbyes to my mom.

“I’ll be back in two weeks for the wedding. You two look after each other, and if you need anything, call me.”

She hugs me so hard I fear she’ll squeeze me to death.

“Don’t worry about us. We’ll be fine,” Saint reassures.

Saint and my mom hug one another. Something I never thought I’d see, making my heart swell in my chest.

“I’ll look after her, Kelly. I promise.”

Saint snakes his arm around my waist, pulling me into his side as we watch the car drive out of view.

“Two weeks with you all to myself,” he says, kissing my forehead sweetly.

I rest my head against his broad shoulder, and a feeling takes hold that I can’t seem to shake away.

When my mom returns, things will be so different. The truth is, I don’t know where that leaves us.

Chapter Forty-Three

Ashiverwrecksthroughmy body.

“C’mon. Let’s get you back inside before you catch a cold. The last thing I need is for you to get sick on me. I’ve got plans for you today that don’t involve making you soup,” I chuckle, wanting to get her back into my bed as soon as possible.

“That was you? You were the one who made me vegetable soup the day after I fell into the pool?” My brows lift in surprise. “That was the best soup I’ve ever tasted.”

“It was my mom’s recipe. She used to make it for me and Jackson when we weren’t feeling well,” I admit.

My phone chimes when we near the front door.

“Yeah,” I answered swiftly, annoyed that my alone time with Lexy was being interrupted.

“We have a problem at the club, boss. Everything’s going to shit,” Eddie, the current manager of Ketch, hurriedly informs me.

My teeth grit. “Be more specific.”

“We were doing a sound check for the DJ’s arrival tonight, and the electrics have blown to shit. One of the bar staff hasn’t shown up, and the liquor delivery is four hours late. Apparently, there was a crash on the highway, and it’s been held up. There won’t be enough booze to get us through tonight. I don’t know what else to do, boss. We’re expecting a major turnout.”

Shit. With everything else that’s been going on, I’d forgotten all about the DJ we booked for tonight. She recently hit the big time with a number-one on the billboards. Tickets sold out in record time.

My annoyance rises, not wanting to leave Lexy. I’d planned to spend the night making her come over and over again.

“Did you try Caleb?”

“No answer, boss.”

“Fuck’s sake.”

“Should I cancel the event?”

“Fuck no. Ring Bennett’s bar. Tell them I said to send over a member of staff and as many barrels of beer as possible. I’ll be there as soon as I can.”

Lexy removes her jacket and steps towards me, looking concerned. The smell of her peony scent is like an instant hit of Valium, calming me down.

“What’s wrong?”

I’m about to close the door when a car engine roars up the driveway. One I know all too well. Colton.
