Tears welled in my eyes. I shook my head, but I couldn’t stop them from overflowing. “Austin.”

He pulled me back into his arms and awkwardly patted my back. “Fuck, Gail. I didn’t mean to make you cry.”

“This is one thing you don’t have to be sorry for,” I sniffled.

“It doesn’t matter to me if we have different mothers,” he added. “There’s no half to me. We’re blood. That’s it.”

I loved that he felt that way. I did, too.

“I agree.”

We separated, and I brushed the wet streaks from my face. “So now comes the hard part.”

“Oh?”

“You have to answer my questions.”

“Shit,” he laughed, “I bet you have a lot of them.”

“I do.” I pointed to the table. “Sit.”

We both returned to our seats. Crow picked up his beer and finished it, pushing the empty bottle aside. “Alright. Go.”

“What’s your favorite color?”

He blinked. A wide grin appeared. “Red. Like Bella’s lips.”

I wrinkled my nose. “Ewww.”

That earned a chuckle. “What’s yours?”

“A blue summer sky.” Just like Talon’s eyes.

“Favorite food?”

“Pizza. Anything Italian.”

He smirked. “Me too.”

This felt good. I wanted to get to know my brother. “Favorite movie?”

“Star Wars.”

“Original trilogy,” I guessed.

The corners of his eyes crinkled. “Yep.”

I knew it. “It’s a tie with Lord of the Rings.”

“Oh, damn. You’re right.”

I sat back, tracing the wooden pattern on the table. “How did Rook die?”

A strangled sound left my brother’s throat. I lifted my head, biting my lip, when I saw the sorrow in his eyes. “Murdered.”

My body stiffened. “Who?”

“The Dirty Death MC. Their president, Undertaker.”
