“Are you serious right now?”

“You think I’m not?”

I picked up the beer and threw it at him.

Crow ducked, dodging the bottle as it hit the wall and shattered behind him. “The fuck was that for?”

“For messing with my love life,” I seethed, “for pushing away the first guy that made me feel like I was the most beautiful woman in the world. I think he might love me.”

Crow’s eyes widened, then narrowed. “You’re not hooking up with a biker.”

“Excuse me?”

“No. Fucking. Bikers.”

I stood and glared at Crow. “How dare you think you have the right to dictate a single thing in my life.”

“Abigail,” he sighed.

“No. Don’t. I don’t evenknowyou, Austin.”

“This—”

I didn’t let him finish. “Why the hell do you think you can order me around? I’ll just walk away. I’ll fucking run and—”

He closed the distance between us and threw his arms around me. “Don’t say that. Please.”

The broken way the last word left his lips dissolved my anger.

“Austin.”

“I’m not good at this. Okay? I’m not used to feeling so overprotective. First, Bella. Now, you.”

“Bella?”

“The sexy as fuck brunette I fell in love with. My ol’ lady. I’ve known her for six months, Gail. She’s myeverything.”

“And you want to keep me from finding the same thing?”

He flinched. “Fuck.”

“Yeah.Fuck.” I rested my cheek over Austin’s heart.

Neither of us moved for a full minute.

“How pissed are you?” He stepped back, staring at me with a vulnerability I never expected.

“I’m a five out of ten.”

He grunted.

“It used to be ten, so we’re making progress.”

He almost smiled.

“You know I love you, right? The fucking second I found that birth certificate and learned I had a sister, I knew I had to be the big brother you never had.”

Crowcared. My brother, Austin Derek Holmes, acted like a big, overprotective, ridiculous asshole because he wanted to protect me.
