“I’m not going to be able to pay my bills. I’ll lose my house.”

Shit.

“All taken care of.”

My gaze snapped to his. “What do you mean?”

“I paid off the mortgage.”

I stared at him, unable to process what he said. “You paid off my mortgage?”

“Yes.”

“I had fifteen years left on that loan, Austin.”

“I’m aware.”

“I don’t, wow. That’s too much.”

“No, it’s not. I didn’t get to be there for you. We didn’t grow up together. Dad would have wanted to help.”

“He did. Uncle Derek was my co-signer.”

Crow shook his head as he smirked. “I bet.”

“What about the body in my bedroom?” I cringed as I remembered the sinister look in those dark eyes.

“There’s no trace of him.”

“So. . .”

“It’s taken care of. No one will ever know he was there, and they won’t find him either.”

Damn.

“Why did he come after me, Austin? I don’t understand why my house was targeted.”

“It wasn’t the house. Nick Grime and his brother Luke work for Undertaker.”

“Nick?” Like the guy I went on a date with? That Nick?

“Talon confirmed Nick was the guy in your house.”

“Shit. What about his brother?”

“We haven’t located Luke yet. I think he’s hiding out while the heat dies down.”

“He’s going to be pissed about his brother.”

“I believe so, yes. I’m counting on him to fuck up and come around, so I have a reason to end him too.”

“You talk about killing like it’s easy.”

“Never easy but sometimes necessary to protect the people we love and the life we lead.”

“Is that how it is? Being a biker?”

“There are days like that, yes.”
