Still, I didn’t want to be spotted.
The women stayed for two hours. I stood and stretched, giving my tired, aching muscles a brief workout in the cool air. Fatigue pressed in, and I ignored the urge to shut my eyes for a few minutes. I wouldn’t risk leaving Abigail vulnerable or unprotected.
My phone vibrated with an incoming call, and I swiped across when I saw Eagle Eye’s name. “That didn’t take long.”
“Because Nick Grime doesn’t hide who he is or what he does for a living.”
“And that is?” I asked, growing impatient.
“Hired thug. Got pinched twice last year for assault. He likes to rough people up for money.”
“Fuck. What does he want with Crow’s sister?”
“That’s for you to sort, brother.”
“Anything else I need to know?”
“Yeah. Watch your back. Nick has been spotted with Dirty Death MC members.”
Son of a bitch! “I’ll watch mineandAbigail’s.”
“Good.” He cleared his throat. “Listen. Nick’s got a cousin who works for the sheriff’s department. He’s an inside guy. Name is Luke Grime. Apart they’re trouble. Together they’re fucking deadly.”
“They won’t get the jump on me.”
He chuckled. “Never doubted that.”
“Keep digging, Eagle Eye. We need to find out as much about these Grime fuckers as we can. There’s a reason Nick tried to get close to Crow’s sister.”
“Already on it. Gonna give this info to Crow.”
“Understood.”
“I’ll be in touch.” He hung up.
Crow texted me thirty minutes later after Abigail arrived back home.She safe?
I didn’t bother replying with a text and called him instead.
The line didn’t finish the first ring before he answered. “Talon.”
“She’s safe.”
A sigh followed. “Heard about Nick and Luke Grime. You see either of them since the arcade?”
“No. I hope it stays that way.”
“You get her out of there if shit goes down.”
“I hear you, pres.”
“If you think she’s in danger, leave Carson City, even if she tries to fight you on it.”
“I will,” I promised.
The line went quiet before I heard Crow clear his throat. “She seem happy?”
“For the most part, yeah.”
