I locked gazes with him and smiled. “Well, I’ve forgiven you. Thank you, Alpha Owen.”

It felt great to meet a werewolf Alpha like Daddy Reece, who could apologize when he made a mistake. From all my encounters with pack Alphas at the Alpha Congresses I attended with Daddy Reece when I was younger, I knew reasonable Alphas like Alpha Owen were incredibly rare. Many Alphas just thought that they could sweep their mistakes under the rug because of their status.

“You’re welcome.” He responded with a smile and lifted his hand as if he intended to pat my head like Nina often did. However, he reconsidered, swiftly tucking his hand back into his pocket.

I smiled at the gesture, nodded, and bowed, ready to go call my father.

“And Aurora?” He called after I’d taken a few steps away from him.

I stopped to look back at him and he moved closer, locking gazes with me and bowing slightly to express his thanks. “Thank you for saving my life. If you hadn’t stopped me from bleeding to death and Alpha Reece hadn’t come to rescue you and thus rescued me, I wouldn’t be here at all. I always wanted to thank you, and today I’ve gotten the chance to.”

The smile that curled my lips this time was much more genuine than my previous smiles. After all, there was no one who wouldn’t appreciate an Alpha who knew how to be grateful even after he’d already exchanged rewards to represent his gratitude earlier.

“You’re welcome, Alpha Owen.”

“Also, I’m really sorry about what the boys did to you. I’ll reprimand them and make sure that no videos leak out.” He assured me.

Remembering that he knew about what happened between Mateo and me made me blush as I nodded, “Alright, thank you.”

With a respectful bow, I watched Alpha Owen stride toward Aiden, where he was standing beside a blue car a few cars away from where Luna Eleanor, Caden, and Mateo were standing.

Looking away from them, I returned to Levi’s car, opened the passenger seat, and sat there to make a call to my father, where I explained everything that had happened during the summoning.

“If what she described was right, then It’s safe to say that whoever the murderer was, they had access to the Black Ace Sect’s experimental drugs, which is why they could maintain a human-wolf form. I’ve only seen that kind of mid-shift transformation on Madden’s father after he took the Black Ace Sect’s drugs and then those mindless soldiers sent by the Black Ace Sect during our battle several years ago.”

Daddy Keane paused and sighed. “After everything we did to destroy the Black Ace Sect and all their cells, I can’t believe something related to them is still surfacing twenty-plus years after.”

I leaned my head back against the car seat’s headrest and sighed as well, worried that there may be a little cell or another group from that god-forsaken sect that may have gotten away from the Supernatural Council and the Blime Organization.

“Aurora, are you okay? Do you want to come back home? I’m sure we can work out some kind of remote studies thing for you?” Daddy Keane’s voice was soft, and I was relieved to hear that he was just concerned about me, not angry with me for blowing my cover or for being stupid enough to have had recorded sex with Mateo.

“I want to stay,” I said in a soft voice.

“Aurora . . . even though only the Alpha and his family and Crawford Town’s law enforcement currently know about you, I think it’s safe to say that your cover is blown. Levi told me about how he stormed into the party to get you last night. Those who caught a good whiff of his scent and realized that he’s a vampire could trace that to him being here for the Supernatural Council, so you being a Supernatural Council member is probably an open secret now. I think that you’re just a little too close to this entire matter. And then there’s your relationship with the Crawford boys . . . I think you should just come back to Ni Daonni City.”

“Dad, Levi told me he was my true mate.” I changed the subject without any subtlety.

“He did?” Just like I expected, he backed up when I said those words.

I looked back to the backseat where Levi was unconscious and jumped out of the car, walking away from it because I wanted to talk to my father about things I didn’t necessarily want Levi to hear.

“Mm-hmm . . . and I think that Aiden and Caden may be my true mates, too. I considered that Mateo could be too, because I also can’t read his thoughts, but now that I met Alpha Owen, I don’t know what to think because his thoughts are as vague as baby Cabe’s. And I also couldn’t read Nyra’s thoughts and I’m not attracted to her that way, so she’s probably not my mate either. So maybe Aiden and Caden aren’t my mates as well. I don’t know what to feel or think right now.” I said, combing my fingers through my hair and squatting over the grass so I could rest my head on my knees.

“Aurora . . . did Aiden and Caden tell you they were your true mates?” Daddy Keane asked.

“No,” I replied.

“Then it’s not likely that they are. When I met your mother, I wanted to tell her immediately that she was my mate. There was an overpowering attraction to her and I couldn’t imagine hurting her the way those boys hurt you yesterday. I know you have feelings for them, but Aurora, you need to remember that being a supernatural or a werewolf doesn’t mean you can’t develop feelings for someone who is not your true mate.” He said.

“It doesn’t matter. Even if they’re my mates, I’m not sure I want to be in a circ, anyway. There’s just way too much pressure and I’m still mad at them . . . for what they did.”

It seemed like I was reassuring Daddy Keane, but deep down, I knew that my attempts were more about comforting myself. Somewhere along the way, I had started to harbor a glimmer of hope that Levi, Caden, Aiden, and Mateo might be my mates and thus members of my circ.

There was a reason for that. If Aiden, Caden, and Mateo were my mates, I could justify my irrational behavior and my uncontrollable feelings for them. However, now that I’d spoken to my father, I was just going to focus on developing my relationship with Levi.

Maybe by doing this, I could slowly forget my feelings for the Crawford boys.
