Ripppp . . .

I paused for a moment as the sound of my shirt tearing filled the air, resembling the sharp crack of a gunshot in the stillness of a quiet village. Ignoring the pain from the leafless branch that had torn deep into my arm, I ran straight into the woods before the two men could register the sound of that unfortunate tree branch tearing into my shirt.

When I came out of the memory, I tightened my grip on Mr. Sameera’s arm as I tried to remember that my name was Aurora. I didn’t have any desire to kill anyone and I was not Mr. Sameera.

Trying to fight the bloodthirstiness I’d gotten from his memories, I said through gritted teeth, “Don’t even think about running away. If you have the guts to try to kill a pack observer, then you should have the guts to face justice. Does Nyra know about this?”

I heard a loud thud and my grip on Mr. Sameera’s arm loosened as I turned back slowly to find Nyra standing behind me.

The maniacal grin on her face stretched her lips wider than I’d ever seen them as she moved closer to me, allowing me to put my hands on her shoulders and use them for support. As I blinked repeatedly to keep my eyes open, I still couldn’t believe that she hit me on the back of my head with the long metal rod that was now lying on the floor.

“She does,” Nyra replied, a mad light glowing in her eyes as she wrapped an arm around my waist to prevent me from crumpling onto the floor.

Staring into her beautiful light brown eyes that held undeniable gloating, I fought against the darkness hovering at the corner of my sight. The liquid flowing down my neck was definitely blood, and it was proof that Nyra had hit me mercilessly on the back of my head.

As I lost consciousness, I was still confused and my last words were, “Why . . .”
