“Yes, Alpha.”The family of three chorused before sitting in the spare chairs that Daddy Aisling pulled from beside him, sending the room into a strange silence.
“How about Aurora’s studies at Crawford?”Alpha Owen asked his previous question again.
Daddy Reece was the one who answered his question.“We’ve taken a break of about a month for her.We’re taking her back home to recuperate and—”
“I thought Amelia already healed her.Why does she need a month to recuperate?”Alpha Owen asked.
Daddy Reece gave him a look that I couldn’t decipher and said reproachfully.“Maybe if you’d let me finish talking, Alpha Owen.”
“Of course, please, Alpha Reece.”Alpha Owen nodded.
“She’ll need at least two weeks to finish recuperating and to deal with Supernatural Council matters.And we’ll be at the Alphas Congress for the next two weeks after that,” Daddy Reece said.
“Okay, good.I thought—”
Before Alpha Owen could finish speaking, there was a light knock on the door.Recognizing Mateo’s knock, I said, “Come in.”
Sure enough, Caden, Mateo, and Aiden swaggered into my hospital room, saying hi to my parents and everyone in the room.Then Aiden and Caden sat on both sides of my bed and grabbed my hands while Mateo leaned on the wall behind Alpha Owen.
I glanced at Marisa and found her staring at us with wide eyes full of surprise while Alice stared at us with a dark face, drooping eyes, and pursed lips.
Although Marisa was surprised at the way Aiden and Caden intimately sat by my side, she didn’t want to embarrass or discredit me, so she didn’t ask any questions.
Unfortunately, her daughter didn’t care so much if I was embarrassed or not.
“Um, Aurora, how about your true mate?That vampire?”Alice’s voice echoed in the quiet room, making everyone’s attention turn to the seemingly timid girl who had been quiet since she got to my hospital room.
I gave her an expressionless smile as I replied, “If you’re referring to Levi, he’s busy right now.”
“Then if you’ve found your true mate, why are you still stringing Aiden and Caden along?I know you like them too, but since you decided to be with the vampire, I think you shouldn’t cheat on him and ...hmm ...”
Before she could say more, Marisa covered Alice’s mouth, apologizing on her behalf.“I’m so sorry.My daughter can be so unruly.I apologize.”
Alpha Owen cleared his throat, saying in a seemingly neutral tone.“Well, she has to be more careful with what she says and when she says it or it could reflect poorly on her or, worse, put her in trouble one day.”
Marisa, Alice, and Jim seemed to hear the undertones of his words as Alice’s eyes widened, Marisa turned pale and Jim pursed his lips and apologized for Alice.
While I didn’t like Alice, I didn’t want Marisa and Jim to get hurt by her stupid actions, so I tried to give her a way out.“Don’t worry Alice.I know you’re worried for them, but I’m not two-timing Alpha Owen’s sons.”
After getting that veiled rebuke from Alpha Owen, Alice was very agreeable.“Of course.”
Thankfully, my mother saw how discomfited Marisa was and changed the subject.
After about ten minutes, the Davis family of three opted to depart, leaving behind ‘get well soon’ greetings.
Soon after, Alpha Owen and Luna Eleanor left, followed closely by my parents as they left me, as usual, in the company of my mates who usually took over the night shift of watching me.

“Dad, how is Nyra doing?Is she sad about her father’s death?Has she said anything about the people that hurt her?Have you found any new information on the case?”I asked, staring at the wall behind Mateo, who was lying beside me, specifically in front of me, on my twin-sized hospital bed while Caden was lying behind me.
I wanted to see Nyra, but I was confined to the hospital until I recovered enough to be discharged, and I could only see Nyra if I got permission from my dad.
“Aurora, don’t bother yourself with all of that right now.It’s only been a few days since you were rescued.You were abducted, and poisoned, and you almost died.Your only duty now is to rest.Leave the case to us.After you’ve taken a good rest for two full weeks, I can consider bringing you back on board, but that’s all dependent on whether you’re obedient or not.”Daddy Keane said, and I knew that if we were on a video call rather than an audio call, he would be staring at me with a big fat frown of disapproval.
I was afraid that he would kick me off the case, so I apologized, allowing the circles that Caden was rubbing in my back to calm me down.“Okay, I’m sorry.I’ll just get well soon and take care of myself.And I won’t ask about the case.”
