Knowing that he was mad at me and angrier than I’d ever seen him, I turned to stare at my mom, who was leaning back in her chair, staring at me.

“How does your side feel now?”She asked, grabbing my hands as the familiar tendrils of her magic slid into my body and examined it.

“It’s so ...sore.It hurts to move.”I said as she nodded and released one of my hands.

She sneered, “Good.I hope this will teach you not to make deadly choices in the future.”

She held my gaze and squeezed my hand, looking very serious.“You can’t afford to make any more deadly choices in the future, Aurora, or you’ll die.The Black Virus ruined your body’s ability to heal with healing magic. If anything ever happens to you again, I’m not even sure my magic would work on you.Do you understand what I mean?”

I nodded.“I understand.I’ll be more careful.”

She released my hand and pulled out her phone, which was on the locker by my bedside.“I’m texting your Dads and everyone else that you’re awake. You were unconscious for two weeks.Everyone was here before. They only left after we finished healing you.Everyone has been dropping in to see you whenever they have some free time.Alpha Owen and Luna Eleanor also came over.Nina just left this morning to rest in the house in Aruthia.I’ll let her sleep and we can surprise her when she returns in the evening.Reece is planning out your punishment, Aisling ...Aisling may take a while to speak to you again, and Keane ...He hasn’t returned to the hospital since we stabilized you.Nina’s so mad at you that I don’t know when she’ll ever talk to you again.Get ready for devil-level counseling with Tariq under Ciara’s watchful eyes after this.”

“Oh, Moon Goddess,” I sighed.

My lips twitched as I realized that I’d pissed off so many people in my life.“I’m so sorry.I just ...I didn’t want to be used to threaten you or the Supernatural Council to do things you didn’t want to do.Plus, the leader of the attackers helped me ...sort of.”

My mom’s voice was dripping with sarcasm, like a honey dipper that had been pushed into a big pot of honey.“Well, bravo then, we all felt so grateful to you when we found out you got hurt trying to play superwoman. Not all chances should be taken, Aurora. To that man, everything was just a gamble of sorts. You won, but if you’d lost, he would have just laughed and forgotten about you.”

“Well ...I’ll give you two some time alone.I need to go check on some of my patients.Don’t move your side at all.”My mom warned before walking out of my hospital room.

“I’m sorry.”I apologized as soon as my mom closed the door behind her.

Aiden’s grip on my left hand tightened for a second before he released it, but he still didn’t respond to my apology. He just sat by my side and embraced me wordlessly.I placed my chin on his shoulder and we stayed like that for a while. When I started patting him on the back, he moved away, returned to his seat by my bedside, and started using his phone.

“Hey, won’t you forgive me?I ...ouch!”I exclaimed as I attempted to sit up slowly, the pain in my side intensifying with my movements.

Aiden looked up from his phone and glared at me.

It was the first time he’d ever glared at me like that, and I was taken aback by it.

“Just stay still.Don’t move.”He said curtly, before returning his attention to his phone.

As I racked my brain to think of the best way to apologize to him, I heard a loud dialing sound and realized that Aiden was making a call in speaker mode. The dial tone was interrupted as whoever was on the other end picked up the call.

However, before they spoke, he said in a hoarse voice, “She’s awake.”

Then he handed me his phone, and on the screen, I saw Mateo and Caden’s faces in separate video call boxes.

Once he’d passed his phone to me, Aiden stood up and turned to look outside the window with his hands in his pocket.

I sighed as I apologized to Mateo and Caden.“I’m sorry.”

Caden sighed and Mateo glared at me, his amber eyes full of unhappiness.

“Aurora, you can’t ever do that again. It’s one thing to be skilled, but what you did—” Caden started.

“What you did was stupid.”Mateo interrupted him.“We could have lost you.All of us.You may not care about your mates, but surely you care about your parents? Were you trying to get killed? What the hell were you thinking?!”

“I’m sorry.I’m so sorry.I wasn’t thinking.I just thought it was a good opportunity and I ...would probably not have such an opportunity again, so I just ...reacted without thinking.”

“Promise me you will never do that again,” Levi, who just joined the call, insisted.

“I promise that I’ll never do anything so stupid again,” I promised instantly.

Levi glared at me for a few seconds before asking, “How do you feel now?We were all at the hospital when your mom’s team managed to stabilize you.You should have seen how anxious and panicked everyone was.”

“Her assistants told us that you might have lost your ability to walk because the nerves in your waist were damaged and the connective tissues supporting your waist and spine were also injured. You’re very lucky your mom is such a proficient healer who also has a network of healers that she could reach out to for help.”Mateo grumbled.
