“Dad’s right. We’re ready.”

I grinned at him in return.

A door opened, and a young woman waved us over. “We’re set to begin.”

I reluctantly stepped out of Dawson’s arms but held onto his right hand. I offered my left to Jaxon, and together, all three of us walked through that door, ready to embrace our future.

I turned to Dawson, whispering to him. “I love you.”

“I love you too. So much,” he returned and kissed me.

As always, Dawson’s touch grounded me.

Today was a moment two years in the making. One we would remember forever.

Not only were we coming up on our one-year wedding anniversary, but I was officially petitioning to adopt Jaxon.

Right here and now.

There had been a lot of conversations—with Jaxon, with Dawson and his family, and, of course, with Nadia’s parents, Jaxon’s other grandparents. And everyone agreed that this step was the best thing for our family.

Fuck, myfamily. Every time I thought about it, I got choked up.

It took me thirty-two years to appreciate that family isn’t just the one you’re born into. It’s the one you create.

When my mom passed, and my dad fell apart, it left me adrift.

But then I had Brodie, Faise, and Ronin.

We became each other’s rock, and then we became rockstars.

But now? With my husband by my side and Jaxon as my son, I had it all.

“No escaping us now,” Dawson teased me as we stepped into the courtroom.

“Good,” I assured him. “Besides, I was only running so you would catch me.”

“And how did that work out?”

I looked at Jaxon and then back at my husband. “Better than my wildest dreams.”
