If only I’d realized that before I answered the door.

“Hey, Mom.”

“You drive me insane!” She squeezed me one last time before she shook her fists at him. “I want to strangle you, sometimes!”

He grinned. “You’d miss me too much.”

“I wish that wasn’t true.” She yanked him in for a hug. “I’m happy for you, even if I want to smack you upside the head.”

“Miles will do it for you.” He winked at me, and I bit my lip in an attempt to hide my smile.

It failed.

“And as I told you thousands of times, mated life is the best, isn’t it?” she demanded, finally releasing him from his hug.

“It is. I don’t even know why dad eats chocolate anymore.”

She grinned. “He’s just insatiable. Some men are worse than others.”

Zander made a gagging face. “TMI, Mom.”

I snorted.

She looped her arm through mine and dragged me down the hall, despite the fact that I was still sans bra and underwear.

“It’s a good thing you’re so short,” Zander told me, tugging lightly on the hem of his t-shirt, which I’d stolen. It fell just above my knees. “Otherwise, I’d have to drag you back to our room caveman-style.”

“There will be no cave-manning until I’ve had my fill of my new daughter,” Anastasia declared. “And my other daughter. And their best friend. Brynn’s here too, isn’t she? I love that girl almost as much as I love you two.” She winked at me.

We reached the living room, and I saw Bash and Eldrich cooking in the kitchen.

I smiled. “She’s probably a little hungover.”

Anastasia tsked her tongue. “Bash, be a gentleman and take her some water, and medicine for her headache,” Anastasia said, peering at her son.

He narrowed his eyes at her.

She narrowed hers right back.

Reluctantly, he picked up a glass of water and a few pills that were already set out on the counter.

The fact that they were already out was interesting, to say the least. I figured Anastasia was responsible, though logic made me uncertain if that was really the case.

Eldrich, Anastasia’s husband, pulled me in for a bone-crushing hug and welcomed me to the family too. He was much quieter than his wife, but seemed like a genuinely nice man every time I met him.

Given how Zander and Rafael turned out, it seemed safe to say he had a wicked streak hiddensomewhere. Unless Bash just took after him, and Bash was just a more serious version of him.

Brynn came stumbling out soon enough, and the three of us ladies chatted while Bash, Zander, and Eldrich made breakfast together.

I had never felt so… loved, maybe?

“So, you don’t have any close family to invite,” Anastasia said, pulling up something that looked like a guest list on her phone. I had to fight a grin at the fact that she already had a guest list twelve hours after Zander sent his text. “Anyone else to add?”

“Nope.” I leaned back against my chair, lifting my gaze to Zander.

His forehead was wrinkled, and he was already looking at me.

Shit.
