“We need to go,” Brynn said, standing abruptly. She grabbed Tatum’s hand, and gestured me toward the door. “Sebastian’s Hummer is here. We need to take it and get out before Evan gets here.”

“This place is supposed to be a fortress,” Tatum countered. “We’re safest here.”

“They got into Zander’s system, so we have no idea if we’re safe. If we aren’t, we’re sitting ducks. At least in the Hummer, we can run,” Brynn said.

Both of them looked at me.

I still hadn’t moved.

The question was a simple one:

Did I trust Zander, or did I not?

He told me he had Evan’s guys, and they couldn’t get in.

So, did I believe him?

“We have to stay.” My words were soft, but certain. “Zander knows what he’s doing. The guys will know he’s coming here, and they’ll show up to deal with him. If we run, he’ll follow, and they’ll have to catch both of us. It’s riskier.”

Brynn grimaced. “Is there an attic or something? I don’t want to?—”

“Look.” Tatum’s eyes were on the TV screen.

We all watched a sleek, black sports car park in my driveway.

“Totally overcompensating,” she whispered.

Any other day, I would’ve cracked a smile.

My stomach was too tense, my fear too thick, and my mind too jittery, though.

I trusted Zander, but that didn’t make it any easier to know there was a man who wanted to kill me striding toward my front door.

The doorbell rang, and Evan grinned wickedly into the camera.

He rang it a dozen more times, and tried the door.

Tatum grabbed my hand.

Brynn grabbed hers.

We all held on for dear life.

We’d been taking self-defense classes for ages… but those classes hadn’t done a damn thing to teach us how to protect ourselves from murderous vampire stalkers.

Evan lifted his phone to his ear, still grinning wickedly into the camera. He shifted into his vampire form, and I nearly stopped breathing as he flashed his fangs at us.

My phone vibrated on the couch.

“Should I…” Tatum trailed off, her stricken gaze landing on the phone.

We all saw the unknown number on the screen.

We all knew who it was.

“No.” The word left my mouth much more confident than it should’ve been. “When I blocked him, he changed his number. He wants to be heard. The best revenge is not to listen.”

“The Villins are on their way,” Brynn said.
