Two minutes.

Not as much time as I would’ve liked.

One minute passed.

Followed by another.

At precisely two o’clock, Zander set his box of candy on the table and sat down in the chair across from mine.

I blinked once, then again.

There wasn’t time for games.

My potential mate was going to be there any second, assuming he wasn’t one of those always-late people. It would drive me insane if I was mated to someone who was always late.

Anyway, I needed to move.

Fast.

I stood swiftly, stepped over to another table, and sat down there, clutching my folder a little too tightly.

Zander eyed me. “What are you doing? You look good, by the way.”

“I’m meeting someone.” I ignored his compliment and gestured to the empty chair.

Thesingleempty chair.

“Who?” he asked.

“Don’t worry about it.” I fought the urge to brush one of my curls behind my ear. They annoyed me, which was why I usually wore them up.

I looked at the clock again.

2:01.

He was officially late.

Dammit.

I slipped my phone out of my pocket and fired off a text to Bash.

Me

You’re sure he’s coming?

He answered immediately.

Bash

He’s already there.

My head jerked upward, and my gaze searched the shop. It was empty, except my employees, my bodyguard, and…

Zander.

Shit.

My phone buzzed again, and I looked down.
