“It was great. Thanks.” Zander grinned, catching my hand and squeezing lightly. “We’re glad to be back, though.”

When she headed back to the front of the room, he leaned in, murmuring, “There will be a real honeymoon. We’ll be leaving from the mating ceremony. If there’s anywhere you’ve been dying to go, now’s the time to tell me.”

My heartbeat picked up. “How about I plan the trip?”

“Withourmoney? I have expensive taste, you know.”

I laughed softly. “I’ll assessourfinances, then we can decide on a budget.”

“Deal.” He kissed my lips. “Now, get that ass into downward dog.”

I snorted, but did, in fact, follow the instructor into downward dog.

When we got backto the apartment, we showered and changed together. After we were clean, we finally went looking for my phone.

Zander had told me on the way home that Evan had left me a message before he was killed. Zander said he hadn’t listened to it or read a transcription of it, out of respect for my privacy. I believed him.

We found it where I’d left it on the couch, and my throat swelled when I saw the message from Evan on the screen.

I’d been expecting it, but it still made me a little nauseous.

I sat on Zander’s lap while we listened to Evan’s voice tell me I would regret choosing a Villin. Zander promised he would look into the threat just to make sure we weren’t at risk, but it had sounded like the empty desperation of a man who knew he had lost.

I deleted the message, but it had killed my mood, so we spent the rest of the day curled up on the couch, bingeing a dramatic TV show together.

Despite the unfortunate message, the day was utterly perfect.

And when we curled up in bed together, I was confident I’d made the right choice in sealing my bond with Zander. It solidified things between us in a way nothing else could’ve, and made me feel so much more secure.

We were mates.

No matter what else the world threw at us, we were permanent, and we were a team.

That was what mattered.

epilogue

ZANDER

Miley’s facewas bright red as I kneeled at her feet, gathering the expensive silk of her wedding dress in my palms. Music, guests, and decor surrounded us in the elegant ballroom that made up the wedding day of our mating celebration.

She was seated in a chair, her body tense as she waited for me to pull the garter off and throw it to the crowd behind us.

Our friends and family hooted and hollered around the room, with Tatum, Rafael, and Brynn riling everyone up. Bash stood at the back of the unmated group, and my dad held him in place with an arm around his shoulders. Undoubtedly, he was doing so at my mother’s request.

“Donotuse your teeth,” Miles warned, fighting a grin.

The woman 100% wanted me to use my teeth.

Even if she didn’t, I’d discovered that she would accept any apology if it involved my tongue.

On her clit.

While her fingers were buried in my feathers.

Life with her was so damn much fun.

I flashed her another grin, then ducked beneath her dress.
