He turned on some music, and I found myself relaxing against my chair, bobbing my head to the beat. I was still hungry, but I was a lot less hungry than I had been. My body felt lighter, and I had more energy than I’d had in a while.

Maybe he’d been on to something when he made me chug blood the day before.

He pulled into a neighborhood after a while, and my eyebrows lifted as I took in the brick and glass houses. They were all modern and large, spaced far apart, and surrounded by enough tall trees to give every home complete privacy. Though nestled inthe middle of the city in a great location, they didn’t feel busy or trapped.

Zander pulled into a garage at the end of a street, and I was quiet as I stepped out of the truck. When I reached the door into the house, he was already holding it open.

I slipped inside, waiting for a stench and half-expecting to find a place that looked like a bomb had gone off.

It actually smelled nice, though.

It smelled like him.

My gaze moved over the pretty tile floors and simple white walls of the hallway, lingering on the exposed wooden beams that had been strategically placed.

When we reached the kitchen, my shoulders relaxed slightly. Light gray cabinets made it feel calm, and speckled black countertops gave it a modern vibe I loved.

His house was clean, but it wasn’t pristinely organized. There was mail on the countertop, and a large calendar on the fridge. There were also shoes lined up against the wall, a shirt draped over the back of the massive black sectional, and the kitchen chairs were all askew.

It wasn’t a mess.

It was just lived-in. And lived-in could be easily cleaned and organized in less than ten minutes.

“Did you spend all night cleaning it up?” I asked him.

He snorted. “No. I spent all night hacking into a building in London for my brothers. Ask Tatum.”

I made a mental note to do so. Maybe it would’ve been more romantic just to trust him, but romance had never accomplished anything good for me.

Romance was what got me into the whole vampire mess in the first place.

Zander continued showing me around. I tried not to drool over the backyard. With the huge, thick trees lining the space and functioning as a second fence, it was insanely peaceful. I could do yoga on the lawn, or work on my computer on the porch. Spending time outside had been way too uncomfortable in my old apartment and my new one, though the view of the mountains was unmatched.

…Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad to move in with Zander after all.

His phone started ringing while he was showing me the hall that housed most of the bedrooms. It was Rafael, calling about the job they were working on, so he apologized but ducked out to take it.

I wandered around the rooms, looking inside. They all had large windows, and looked comfortable.

Peeking in the one at the end of the hall, I let out a long, slow breath.

It was gorgeous.

The wall directly in front of me was red brick. The bed centered on it was a monstrosity of artfully-rugged wood, and simple gray sheets and blankets that were rumpled.

White would’ve been better, but less manly, I supposed.

The room was wide and open, with a huge mirror in one corner and a large plant in another. A sweeping entryway led into a connected bathroom, and when my gaze caught on the edge of what looked like a fancy bathtub, my feet carried me in without a second thought.

It was a jacuzzi tub, big enough for two people and deep enough that the water would go to my chin.

Shittt.

He had officially convinced me to move in with him.

I was going to have to act like it was a hard sell, but it wasn’t. It really, really wasn’t. Outdoor yoga and deep bubble baths were too seductive.

“Making yourself at home in my room, Sweetheart?” Zander drawled from the bedroom doorway.
