My phone buzzed, and when my gaze jerked down again, I found Zander’s name on the screen.

“I have to go,” I whispered to Tatum, and hit the button to answer.

“Where are you?” Zander’s voice was calm, but firm.

My eyes stung. “Outside the yoga studio.”

“I’m taking off right now. Stay on the line.”

I nodded, though he couldn’t see me.

The sound on his end of the call was loud, like a blow-dryer or a car with the windows down.

Was he… flying?

Two minutes later, he landed in front of my car. His gorgeous, red wings were spread out behind him, and his sharp gaze met mine before it swept the space around my vehicle. Rafael said something to him, and he replied while striding to my side of the car.

When he opened my door, my arms went around his neck of their own accord. His wings disappeared as he shifted back, but neither of us let go.

I clung to him, and he held me tightly to his chest. My pounding heart slowed with his presence.

After a few minutes, he murmured to me that we needed to get home. I nodded, and he set me in the passenger seat before pulling my car out of the parking lot.

MILEY

Tatum,Rafael, and Brynn met us at our house. Sebastian arrived soon enough, too, and we gathered in the living room.

Tatum and Brynn sat on either side of me, Tatum holding my hand and Brynn snuggled up against me. Zander paced in front of us, but his steps were smooth and measured. There was no panic in his eyes.

He had already explained the texts I received, and what had happened. The guys were tossing ideas about how they could respond.

Attacking first.

Reporting him to Charlie again.

Getting the government involved.

Hunting Evan.

Blackmailing Evan.

Paying a good-ish vampire to hunt Evan for us.

My mind spun, my heart still beating rapidly.

I didn’t know what to do to stop Evan—but I did know how to make a statement to him.

The idea swirled and danced in my mind as I debated the pros and cons. Ultimately, there weren’t many cons. It really wouldn’t change our situation. It was the same idea I’d brought him in my coffee shop when I thought he was a human. The only one that gave me a true amount of stability.

Finally, I stopped thinking and forced the words out.

“We need to seal the mate bond.”

Everyone in the room turned their heads and stared at me.

The only person I stared back at was Zander. “He’s trying to scare me into submission. If we seal the bond and hold a mating celebration, it makes a statement. It tells him he has no power over us, and he doesn’t scare us.”
