His grin widened. “It’ll be great.”

“You just called it terrible.”

He laughed. “Goodterrible. Come on, Sweetheart. Just lay on the bed.”

I made a face at him, but I plopped down on the bed and dropped to my back. He got settled beside me and pulled the blanket over our legs.

“Perfect. Pull your tank top up, so it looks rumpled.” Zander tugged his shirt over his head.

“Want me to take my bra off, too?” I drawled, following his instructions and mussing my top. It was pretty rumpled after our dance party, so it didn’t take much.

“Not yet. Now, snuggle up. And give me your hand.” I rolled closer to him, nestling my forehead against his neck and lifting my hand up. “Even better.” He dragged my hand up over my face, covering it. “She’s going to lose her mind.”

“Who?” I was suddenly feeling defensive.

“My mom. Stay still.”

I heard the click of a camera.

“Wait…” I peeked out between my fingers, and found him taking pictures of us with his phone “Please tell me your good-terrible plan doesn’t involve telling your mom we’re mated by sending her these pictures of us.”

He laughed. “It does. She’s going to be so damn excited.”

I sighed. “You could just tell her.”

“I could, but it’ll be a hell of a lot more exciting to her this way.”

“You’re insane.”

“Never claimed otherwise.” He kissed my forehead. I stayed where I was, relaxing in his arms as he typed out a text.

“Do you really think we’re compatible?” I asked him quietly, after I heard the whoosh of the messages sending. “You’re fun. I’m… not fun.”

“Are you kidding me? You’re a blast. I have fun teasing you, and I love your sense of humor. If you were laid-back, you wouldn’t be able to handle me, and I wouldn’t be interested in you.”

I couldn’t hide my small smile. “You think so?”

“Sweetheart, I’m positive. Just look at Brynn. She’s fun, right? What would happen if you put someone like me with someone like Brynn?”

I considered it for a long, long moment. “Too much fun?” I finally said.

He grinned. “Exactly. It would never last. There has to be a balance. And don’t fucking tell me you’re not fun—we laugh together all the time. We still have shit to figure out, but we’ll get there. The best things in life take some effort, and I’ll fight for us until we figure it out.”

His phone started buzzing halfway through his speech, which distracted me a little, but I still got the gist of it.

“Is she calling you?”

“Yup.”

A heartbeat passed.

“Are you going to answer it?” I checked.

“Nah. She’ll be more enthusiastic if I leave her to stew for a while.” He held the button to shut off his phone, and dropped it on the nightstand. “Now, what was I planning on tasting…” His hand slipped between my ass cheeks, and I sucked in a breath when he brushed my clit over my leggings. “Are you wet for me?”

“Not yet.” An idea occurred to me—and I wanted to go through with it, suddenly, and fiercely. I wasn’t a sudden person, but maybe Zander was making me just the tiniest bit more spontaneous. “Wait.”

His hand went still.
