“Good, because I want to keep you forever.” Our mouths brush together messily as I move up and down from her chin to her lips. I can’t get enough of our languid lovemaking. Her walls flex around me in a steady rhythm as she comes, and I fall over, spilling my seed inside her. I send up a silent prayer that we made one of many sons today.

As we both come down, I realize there’s a tray of fruit beside us, and I bring a strawberry to her pretty lips. “I need to feed you and our babies.”

She bites it without hesitation or argument. “I love strawberries.”

I kiss her lips and groan. “I love them too.”

We lay in bed for the rest of the day, letting all the troubles stay where they were. No more talk about her father as I put on movie after movie. Alek keeps me in the loop to reassure me that the house is safe and secure and Volchek is still abroad.

Every giggle from her lips makes the world right around me. I could almost forget about everything else.

The sun is out, but the temps have dropped, and my poor Katya looks chilly as she sits on our bedroom balcony, drinking her coffee. “You don’t have to be out here. I had no idea the temps would have fallen so fast.” I bring out a robe and drape it around her slender shoulders.

She tilts her head up at me with her nose turning pink from the cold. “It’s actually nice. It’s just been a long time since I’ve been outside that I’m a little nervous.”

“You don’t have anything to worry about here. Although, I need you to come in now because I’ve got matters to attend to, and I want to ensure your safety. Let’s go up to our room for now.” Yesterday had been an enjoyable break, but unfortunately, we can’t have peace until I get rid of her father. She doesn’t challenge me, which is good. The girls stay at Ivan’s wing of the estate so that he can keep an eye on them and his mother, who is slowly improving from a cold.

Just then, my phone rings. It’s Sergei. “What’s going on?”

“Volchek’s calling on Drago Romanov. According to our source, he thinks you two have issues and is hoping to bribe him.”

“Are you serious?” I had a feeling he’d try Drago as a last resort.

“Yes. We have a string of texts between Vlad and Abram.” So, the fucker isn’t dead yet. I got a bullet for him when he does appear, or maybe I’ll save him for the Popov family as a peace offering. “They’re headed to Chicago, although from the texts, it doesn’t look like Drago has any idea they’re coming.”

“Send them to me,” I command.

“They are already headed your way.” My phone goes off to a string of texts, showing Vlad getting nervous and looking for allies, but he has none, so he’s taking a last shot at Drago for help.

“Thank you for these.”

“Do you think Romanov would assist him?” Alek asks again. We both know it wouldn’t happen, but how can we work it out to our benefit? If Drago feels insulted or threatened, he’ll kill Vlad before he leaves Romanov’s estate.

“Not for all the money in the world. Drago has morals even if he’s an icy prick.”

“What do you want us to do?”

“Let Vlad come for me.” Katya gasps as I end the call. I’d forgotten that she was standing there. Cupping her face, I kiss her lips. “Relax, my sweet little princess. He can’t get to me, and I’m ready to drop him in a heartbeat. Besides, he’s fled the country, so I have some time to prepare even more than I already have. Right now, I have to speak with my men. I’m sorry.”

She clings to my sleeve. “Please be careful.”

“Absolutely. I have a lot to lose.” I kiss her once more before leaving my bedroom.

“Don’t let anyone in. Anyone.” I look at my guard and give him a warning that I’m deathly serious. As much as I like Ivan’s sisters, I have to trust that she doesn’t have any enemies on the inside.

I head down to my office, close the door, and call my friend in Chicago. Shit, I forget to check the time over there, but when I look, it’s around the early morning hours. Hopefully, I catch him. Drago manages to pick up on the second ring.

“Hello, Brat,” he greeted me.

“He’s coming to you. I’ve taken her, and I will have my revenge.” Drago and I are quite similar now more than ever. I’d never been this dark or violent, while he’s always been cold and deadly. Still, I’m not letting anyone come between Katya and me.

“Oh, yes?” He’s the one who helped me find the little ice princess in her forest prison. His help was instrumental in locating her so quickly, and I’ll forever be grateful to him because if I hadn’t found her when I did, she could have been moved or sold to some asshole.

“He wants your aid in destroying me.” I can’t hide the rage that comes out with every word.

“He will never acquire it,” Drago snarls on the other end. I never once doubted my friend, no matter what I made everyone else believe. His character, although dark and cold, has always been trustworthy.
