Evidence in hand, I consider my next moves. My retribution will not be easy or fast. It will be slow and methodical as I undo all that Volchek holds dear. Starting with his family.

Chapter One

Roman

Alek enters my office with my breakfast, which has consisted of just coffee over the past week and a half. He sets it down in front of me before taking a seat in the chair in front of my desk. “Boss, everything is set up for the first round this morning.”

“That’s good news.” I sip the hot black coffee with a sinister grin on my face as the plans I’ve been stewing over for more than a week fall into place. Sleep has been almost nonexistent for me since I learned who orchestrated their murders. Dreams turned into nightmares and I woke up with new ways to seek revenge on their killer.

The first domino will fall in an hour, and I will enjoy it as the world crumbles around Vladimir Volchek. I’ll be saving his death for last, but not until I end everyone in his lineage and take every ounce of his empire from his old, cruel hands.

One by one, his companies, warehouses, and lives will fall.

To the world, Vladimir only had one child, his heir, Vladimir the second, a dreg of humanity, but he had a secret only a few had known about, a hidden daughter. Why she was a secret made no sense to me other than to keep her away from his enemies like me.

Drago Romanov had come in handy with everything I needed to find the missing princess. It would only be a matter of time until she was next on my list. He could hide her all he wanted, but he unleashed a monster, and there was no way I could be tamed.

We go over my family’s assets, which are massive on top of my own that I had accumulated outside of the Bratva. Financially, I was a guru of sorts, having gone off to college and getting a master’s in business in both domestic and foreign for the purpose of legitimacy.

With both empires, I’m now a target for Volchek and maybe the reason he waited to come after me. What a foolish move on his part. He won’t have a ruble to his name before I end his life.

The call comes in twenty minutes later, and everything is ready to strike.

“Showtime.” I rub my hands together before standing and adjusting my nicely tailored suit. It happened to be one of my mother’s favorites and she often told me how handsome I looked in it. Today, I wear it in her honor as I take down the first of several targets.

“Ready, Alek?” I ask my righthand man.

“Always. Let’s do this.” He pops up from his seat and we both file out of my office over to the arsenal of weapons I have at my disposal. Although I have the special piece I want for today, I take a few extra just in case.

We prepare our weapons and head to my state-of-the-art, highly secured armored SUV. Our team had been there two hours ago, setting up everything we needed for this to work like a well-oiled machine.

It surprised me that given they were on my radar that they hadn’t tightened up their security. Taking it as an insult, I will crush every soldier who puts up a fight.

Alek and I drive to the destination on the wharf, parking just out of sight. We stalk down to where Vlad the Second, my former playmate, is getting his rocks off by beating on a woman who probably didn’t give him his drink right. For a tough guy, he had the most specific way of having his coffee. It was so diluted with creams and sweeteners that it wasn’t coffee anymore, the little bitch.

There are no cameras in this area of the wharf, and my men did a cursory check as we dropped four men on the way to my target. Not that I’m worried about Volchek finding out it was me, but the less the authorities have on me, the less they can use to against me.

Quickly we drop two guys without making any noise. They didn’t even get a chance to radio in that we were there. Anyone stepping in my way will meet their maker today.

“Can’t pick on someone your own size, Volchek?” I ask, stepping out from behind my vehicle.

His head shoots up, eyes wide and glassy, clearly on something. “What the fuck are you doing here?” he gasps, taking a step back from the broad on the ground.

She scurries back on her palms, looking to get away from danger. It’s what happens when you work for a cruel, sick fuck.

“Is that any way to greet a long-time friend?” I ask, my tone belying my words. I open my arms and shake my head.

“Friend? I’m supposed to believe that we’re still friends.”

“I don’t know what would make us enemies, Vladdy boy. Do you?”

The smirk on his face spreads into a grin. “You are weaker than my father thought. What are you here for? My men line this wharf. There’s no way you’ll get out of here safely.” They line the wharf alright. Bodies litter the area like trash, and I have one more to dispose of before all is said and done here.

“Oh, don’t worry about my safety, Vladdy boy. We have matters to discuss, like why you were wearing my father’s watch to his funeral. The one he never took off.” He smiles, lifting up his cuff for me to see it on his wrist.

“He didn’t need it anymore.” I nod my head several times with insane patience, which gives Vlad a chance to reach for his weapon, but he’s not as fast as me.

“You don’t either.” I fire one shot into his head, and he drops to the ground before he gets a shot off.
