“Oh, at the condo?” Ilya’s mother says. “It’s exquisite. Ilya wanted you to have the best.”

“I love it.”

“I will have to see it, but we have so much to discuss before the wedding.”

“Speaking of weddings, when will that work for you?” Ilya asks me.

“Two months ago, but I’ll be happy when it comes.”

“We are ready to have it in the next week.”

“Good.” He kisses my hand and leads us into the house.

Chapter Twelve

Ilya

“May I have a word with you in private?” Drago asks. I am already prepared for the onslaught that I’m about to receive.

“You can use my office,” my father says. We stand and exit the room before Natalya can stop me. She’s anxious, but Drago isn’t going to misbehave in front of my parents, even if he’s pissed off with me. We enter the room, and I close the door. He pulls me into his arms and gives me a hug. “I’m so glad you’re alive.” I’m shocked by his reaction, but as we break apart, he says, “When your father called me to tell me what happened at the club, I prayed that you survived not only for Natalya’s sake, but for my own. You’re my godson, and although you’re stealing my little girl, you know that I’ve always thought of you as another son.”

“Thank you. I hadn’t expected you to care after…”

“After you essentially kidnapped my daughter?”

“Yes.”

“My wife and I were well aware of what we were doing. As I said before, she was safer and happier with you. The Fratelli family have agents ready to strike at home as well. As you see, they were ready to snatch her up if she’d gone out with one of her friends.”

“True.”

“Now, I’m sure they’re worried I’m tearing into you in here, and although I’ve let you off easy, I will give you a warning. You hurt my baby girl, and I’ll forget all the love I have for you.”

“You know that I wouldn’t harm her.”

“Except the ropes earlier.”

“Actually, the ropes were for her own safety. You saw that she was trying to escape again.”

“Fair enough.”

“Where is her necklace? She told me she threw it away.” I eye him because the damn thing has been tracked to the house. He opens his jacket, and he pulls out the little box.

“I knew she treasured it,” he confesses, having pulled it from the trash.

“Give it to her as a wedding present.”

“Don’t you want to give it back to her?”

“No. You rescued it from the trash, and she’ll be happy to have it back.” We shake hands and then embrace. “Thank you, Godfather.” We leave my father’s office and return to the family with smiles on our faces.

Natalya’s eyes meet mine, and she blushes. “Sorry I’m late, but I had another matter to see to,” Anatoly says, coming from the other entrance of the dining room.

“Welcome. You’re just in time to celebrate the engagement.”

“Congratulations, Ilya and Ms. Natalya. You are with the better man.” He winks at her, and I still want to punch him in the head or balls but I let it go for the time being because I want to kiss my bride.

I lean down and steal a chaste kiss from Natalya’s lips, or at least attempt to do so because she lets out a seductive moan infront of our entire family. I groan and pull back, taking my seat beside my fiancée.
